Here's the only thing you need to know about Riverdale, the new ongoing series from Archie Comics that ties into the CW's truly bonkers television drama of the same name. So you know how every episode of the TV show is named after a movie, like "Touch of Evil" or "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"? It turns out that they're keeping that up for the comic and the two stories that make up this first issue, too. One is called Bloodsport. The other is called Bring It On.

This week Veronica tries to repair her relationship with Betty, Archie tries to repair his relationship with Jughead, we find out more about Jason Blossom’s death, and Josie and the Pussycats rock out at a pep rally. “A Touch of Evil” was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Lee Toland Krieger.

Welcome to Riverdale, the latest CW show based on a comic; but instead of DC superheroes, this one is all about Archie Andrews and his pals 'n' gals! Archie Comics aficionado Chris Sims and CW teen drama superfan Emma Lawson will be your recappers for our weekly breakdown of what's hot and happening at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe. This week, we meet all the characters we know and love, including Archie, Betty, Veronica, Kevin, Cheryl, Reggie, and Jughead --- but none of them are quite what you might expect here in Twink Peaks, and one of them might be covering up a murder. "The River's Edge" was directed by Lee Toland Krieger and written by Archie Comics' own creative director Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

It's October now, and everything's getting spookier. So this is the perfect time to imagine a movie based on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the Archie horror comic by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack. Chilling Adventures takes the characters and premise of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and recontextualizes it from silly comedy to gruesome supernatural horror.

I don't know that I've ever wanted to see a live-action comics-inspired television show as much as I want to watch Riverdale, and considering that we are currently living in an era where you can see stuff like Gorilla Grodd, the Martian Manhunter, and Red Kryptonite on TV every week, that's saying something. The show, which debuts mid-season next year on the CW, has promised a darker take on the Archie Comics characters, full of dark secrets - and if you're calmly enduring the wait to find out what kind of dark secrets Jughead has, then you're a far more patient person than I am. But for the rest of us, there's good news. Today, Archie announced that they're going to be publishing Riverdale, a prequel one-shot followed by an ongoing tie-in series early next year, written by showrunner and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with art by Alitha Martinez.

For something that's nominally built for quck gags about lovestruck teenagers getting into magical hijinx, the world of Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a surprisingly complex one. Even before Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack started weaving in Lovecraftian horrors and witchity destinies, there was a lot of weird stuff going on. Like, you know, the fact that a mad sorcerer who attempted a bloody conquest of the world can wind up imprisoned as a wisecracking housecat. That cat is, of course, Salem Saberhagen, and while he's mostly known for being the sardonic counterpart to Sabrina Spellman, there's a lot more going on underneath the coat of fur that serves as his prison --- and in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #6, he's stepping into the spotlight (and talking to a couple of cobras while he's at it).
