Topps Introduces On-Demand 'Star Wars' Trading Card Series
Print on-demand trading cards have been a rather nice hit for Topps, particularly as it pertains to baseball and soccer. The Topps Now series has offered daily trading cards based on the entire season, spotlighting big events in the major leagues all season long. The limited run cards have done so well for Topps, this year we saw the company branch out into sets for AMC's Preacher and the WWE, as well as new sets for AMC's The Walking Dead. As massive as those properties are in the pop culture collective, they pale in comparison to the power of Star Wars. Of course, Star Wars doesn't update as frequently as sports or television shows like those on AMC. Rather than focus on events as they're unfolding, the all-new Star Wars: Rogue One Mission Briefing Monday sets offer a glimpse into characters we've never seen or met before.

Four years ago, Topps released its Star Wars Galactic Files trading cards --- a massive 350-card set that documented the entire history of Star Wars character, vehicles, moments and more from across the first 35 years of the franchise. In addition to providing some insight into all those aspects, the cards also featured stats for each character, much like the old Marvel Universe cards. It was a fun way to look back at these characters and see how they truly ranked, with characters like Luke getting better stats as the films progressed. Next year, the Galactic Files will be "reborn" as a new set, adding in The Force Awakens, as well as the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. Now we'll finally know just how powerful characters like Rey, Kylo Ren and Kanan are compared to the rest of the Force-sensitive heroes and villains from the saga.

People love The Walking Dead. Despite some rage-inducing story decisions made at the end of this last season (and numerous times throughout the show's run depending on who you're asking), the show is still one of the biggest hits not on premium cable. It's so successful it even necessitated the creation of a spin-off series, Fear the Walking Dead, which showcases the zombie apocalypse from an all-new perspective of characters not seen in the comic series before. And there's the post-show talk show too, but the merits of its existence is a whole different discussion nobody wants to have. While there has certainly been no shortage of merchandise for the television show, including trading cards, Topps has seen fit to add the popular series to its stable of licensed products. Things kicked off today with the launch of a new, free digital card app, The Walking Dead Card Trader, with physical cards planned to follow later in 2016. What kind of cards are we talking about here? Walkers. Lots and lots of walkers.

I've made no bones about my infatuation with Star Wars Card Trader. I've been hooked on the digital trading card app since the tail end of summer, and subsequent months have seen me fall further and further into the hoarding hole. I'm checking the reddit. I'm checking the multiple official and unofficial Twitter feeds. Anything that has news about new cards coming is something I immediately seek out. Just last week, Topps brought back its popular Marathon series in grand fashion, with six new sets for fans to collect on a weekly basis for the next 30 weeks. Producer Ian Hundiak also teased there would be new drops not tied to Marathons coming as well, but didn't have much more to share beyond that... until today. Courtesy of Topps, we've got an exclusive first look at the next insert series, Original Art.

I have a problem. That problem is my addiction to the Star Wars Card Trader app. Not once in my life did I ever expect to fall down such a deep rabbit hole for virtual trading cards I'd collect on my phone, but I also never thought Back to the Future II was capable of actually predicting (potential) World Series winners. These things happen. I freely admit that this all started when Topps sponsored some of our video content last month. Those little advertisements worked as Topps intended, and they got me to try out the app out of sheer curiosity. It's been a bad year to try and convince me not to buy something with the words "star" and "wars" on them. I've got a stack of comics and novels I'm still working through, and a lot of toys on order, much to the chagrin of my shelves. When I saw that Topps was going to be at New York Comic Con, I immediately knew I needed to head to that booth. There was bound to be some sort of cool exclusive cards, which there were, and I needed to make sure I could get them. While I was there, I figured I might as well attempt to make it look like I was working, so I also chatted up Ian Hundiak, app producer for all of Topps Digital, and Matthew Petz, one of the designers for the Star Wars Card Trader (also a 2015 Eisner nominee for his work on Top Shelf's The Leg) about the app, its success, and what to expect for the rest of 2015.

Topps Announces First New ‘Mars Attacks’ Story Card Series Since 1962
The last time the Topps trading card company released a new set of Mars Attacks story cards, John F. Kennedy was in the White House. To celebrate the 50th (technically the 51st) anniversary of the originals -- which were reprinted in the '80s and became a Tim Burton-directed movie in 1996 -- the company is unveiling another batch...

‘Dinosaurs Attack!’ Comics Return At IDW This July
There are a few things that I truly love. One is dinosaurs. The other is cartoonish mayhem. So it should come as no surprise to anybody that I am a huge fan of the 1988 Dinosaurs Attack! card series from Topps. A reworking of the classic Mars Attacks...

‘Mars Attacks’ Broadway? IDW Announces ’21st Century Slaughter’ Musical
It may sound like the kind of announcement that makes you suspicious about some people getting an early jump on the April Fools stories, but IDW Publishing announced yesterday that it's teaming up with the Topps Company to co-produce a Broadway musical based on the 1960s trading card series Mars Attacks, written and produced by Chew writer John Layman...

Bizarro 1970s Marvel Topps Stickers Are Their Own Parody
Marvel Comics put out some pretty wacky things in the 1970s -- as we learned a while back from that blacklight poster -- but the series of "Comic Book Heroes" stickers released through Topps in 1974 are certainly up there on the list. Originally sold in packs along with bubble gum, the stickers are most notable for their bizarro captions that range from blindingly simplistic puns to stra
