When Image Comics has new titles to announce, it doesn't play by halves; the publisher has been known to throw down a massive number of awesome sounding titles led by amazing creators, before dropping the mic as if to say, "Top that". Last night at Emerald City Comic Con, the publisher did exactly that as it announced fifteen new comics and original graphic novels, including new work from Jeff Lemire, Declan Shalvey and Matt Wagner.

Tradd Moore’s work is crazy, detailed, over-the-top nonsense, so it’s great to see him back on a story --- no matter how short --- for Ghost Rider #1. Moore is especially notable for his flexibility, and the opportunities for fun this provides to his collaborators. With his work being larger than life, it means the colorist working with him can play around with their work, too. They don’t necessarily have to strive for realism in their rendering, and can make the colors really pop and get in your face. Val Staples has that opportunity with their short story in Ghost Rider, and she takes it.

Last month, Marvel announced a whole slew of titles that fall under the new Marvel Now banner, but it seems one of them may have slipped through the cracks. Today, the publisher has announced a new ongoing Ghost Rider title once again starring Robbie Reyes as the flame-headed vengeance seeking anti-hero.

Ghost Rider, the daredevil stuntman with a skeleton head made of fire, debuted in Marvel Comics on this day in 1972, and despite being one of the most definitively '70s Marvel concepts, along with Power Man and Iron Fist, the character has retained a lasting appeal and remains endlessly fun.

Captain America: Civil War is in cinemas now, and everyone’s raving about its impressive set-pieces, complex themes and snappy banter. Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers not only managed to make possibly the best Captain America film (and the best Avengers film) so far, but they told an awesome, tightly-plotted story that never felt bloated despite the number of characters demanding the spotlight. The Captain America franchise has always skewed somewhat more toward espionage thrillers than your average superhero series, similar in tone to the Jason Bourne series or the modern day James Bond films. If you loved Civil War and want to try some comics in a similar vein --- but you’ve already read Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting’s Captain America run --- we’ve compiled a list of five of the best independent comics to try next.
