All that glitters isn't necessarily gold -- sometimes it's vinyl, and vinyl molded into designer figures of Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Fans can thank Funko for such glittery (and more chrome-like) goodness, as the toymaker revealed new Hikari figures based on the characters at Toy Fair 2014.
Kidrobot made good on its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles teasers in a big way this weekend at Toy Fair 2014 with a bodacious display of its three classes of upcoming vinyl figures. Rather than basing the toys off of the new Nickelodeon CG animated series or this summer's live action TMNT film, Kidrobot's toys are callbacks to the late 1980s and early '90s action figure designs popularized by Playmates and the 1987-1996 cartoon. The colors are bright, the sculpts are slick-yet-silly and the packaging is plainly radical.
Between its massive Hasbro and LEGO toy lines, Guardians of the Galaxy is the undisputed movie license of Toy Fair 2014. So it's no surprise that Funko has debuted some new GotG figures as part of its own sizable 3.75" tall Pop! Vinyl empire -- or that the usually four-character Pop! wave is extra big to accommodate the film's five heroes.
There are a lot of toy options on the market, but only QMx has been putting a customizable word balloon spin on franchises such as Star Trek and other comics-friendly fare with its unique Q-Pop line. This month at Toy Fair, the company will officially unveil its furthest foray into the world of superhero pop culture yet, with the release of four new DC Comics Q-Pop figures. But you don't have to wait until next Sunday to see the upcoming toys, ComicsAlliance has been provided with a first-look at an unpainted prototype of the Catwoman Q-Pop, along with color concept art of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
Medicom kicked off its line of DC Comics soft vinyl Sofubi figures pretty conservatively with Batman and the Joker, but it looks like the second wave will get a little weirder. Sure, Superman's leading the three-figure wave, but he's joined by none other than Bizarro and Swamp Thing (who is am-ay-zing, and fights everything nasty).
Funko's 3.75" Pop! Vinyl line will welcome the latest movie incarnation of Marvel's Sentinel of Liberty (and company) this spring with a four-figure set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier figures. Set to arrive in March in anticipation of The First Avenger sequel's April 4 release date, the line will include fresh versions of Cap, Black Widow, and two versions of The Winter Soldier himself.
If you thought the Uglydoll x DC Comics collaboration was going to stop at plush versions of Babo as Superman and Ice-Bat as Batman, prepare for plastic. Funko will be bringing vinyl versions of Uglydoll characters decked out in DC superhero costumes into the fold in 2014. First up? Ice-Bat as Batman, Babo as Superman and Wedgehead as Robin.
