Even though it seems like we're well past the age of mandatory movie video game tie-ins on current-gen consoles, Activision and Beenox are still all about The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The last semi-sandbox action game served as a sort of followup to the film, with all kinds of extra animal-based mutants and robots to fight in New York City and was generally well-received by critics, so it makes sense that they're continuing to explore the game's "alternative take" on the sequel in a bigger environment and with a mightier Webslinger.

In the ASM2 game, Spider-Man -- and a more playable Peter Parker -- will face some unspecified familiar foes (like... maybe Electro and Rhino?) along with a new threat.

Adding to the gameplay from the last movie game is a new "Hero or Menace" system that rewards fighting crime and tacks on consequences for metaphorically telling NYC cops "Sorry pal! That's your job!" and looking out for number one. General combat will also see a boost with "new web-swinging and up-close-and-personal" abilities joining the sequel according to Activision's official press release.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game will launch alongside the ASM2 movie on April 17 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS and PC.
