The Walking Dead got as much mileage out of its first big bad as humanly possible (even then keeping him around for the occasional hallucination), but many wonder when the infamous “Negan” might swing his trusty bat, now that we’ve established Alexandria. Good news! The Walking Dead may yet introduce Negan (and others) in Season 6 … or maybe 7. Hey, even they don’t know.

You’re warned of some light comic spoilers from here on out, though it wasn’t terribly long after comic Rick and his group settled into Alexandria that a still-living outside world began to encroach on their territory, including some notably good factions, and one seriously-evil quotient led by the dastardly Negan. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Scott Gimple confirmed years-long speculation that a plan for Negan is indeed in the works, though they may not end up using it until Season 7.

It’s absolutely a possibility. And when I say it’s a possibility, we have a plan in place, but there’s a couple variables for that plan that we’re deciding about. It really depends on a few factors as we move into setting up the last bit of the season story-wise.

The same could also prove true of fellow fan-favorite Paul “Jesus” Monroe, a notable fighter with the appearance of his namesake, whose arrival predated Negan’s in the comics. Also unknown, is whether the “Wolves” constitute the same group of “Saviors” as Negan led in the comics, or perhaps an altogether different faction. At least as far as Season 6, a number of other new photos have arrived:

Thus far of The Walking Dead Season 6, we know that Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins has joined the series in the comic role of Alexandria runner Heath, alongside new additions Ethan Embry and Merrit Wever. AMC has also released a few photos, amid previews of a fleshed-out comic backstory, while we’ve broken down the Season 6 trailer, and previewed exactly how grotesque walkers will look by the October 11 premiere.

We’ll see more of The Walking Dead Season 6 on the long road to October, but check out the trailer again below, and stay tuned for the latest from cast and crew.
