Hot from its debut at the Powers panel at New York Comic Con, the first trailer for Sony Playstation's live action Powers TV show is now online. Based on the Image-then-Icon comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, Powers is the story of two detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), assigned to investigate crimes involving "Powers" -- people with superhuman abilities.

The trailer is notably light on actual superpowers, and the tone strongly favors dark shadow over bright pop colors. The primary focus is on Copley's Walker, who delivers the opening monologue, though the opening issues of the comic tended to offer more of Pilgrim's point of view, with Walker presented as an enigmatic figure who kept his life as a former hero secret. The show is clearly taking a different approach.

Set to debut in December 2014 as a PlayStation original series, Powers' first of ten episodes are written by executive producer Charlie Huston and directed by David Slade. Bendis and Huston serve as showrunners. The series also features Michelle Forbes as former superhero Retro Girl, and Eddie Izzard as supervillain Alan MooreWolfe. Episodes will be available to Sony Playstation Network subscribers.

The first official poster for the show also debuted at NYCC a few days ago, which you can see below courtesy of IGN.
