There are a number of DC characters that could use a little more visibility on the collectibles front. Particularly when it comes to those of the multimedia persuasion. The world will never have a problem finding Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman items, but for a character that's got a hit TV show, there sure isn't very much Supergirl merchandise to capitalize on the status of the last daughter of Krypton. Fortunately, there is some bright light on the horizon, as Mattel, DC Collectibles and Sideshow Collectibles will do their best to give Kara her fair shake.

Since debuting last year at San Diego Comic-Con, Sideshow Collectibles' Supergirl Premium Format Figure has gone through a few changes. She's primarily still the same Kryptonian teen we've all come to know and love over the last 60 years, but over the last eight months a few incremental changes have been made to the Stanley Lau-designed piece.

At first glance, it's hard to notice anything different between this final version of Supergirl and the one that first appeared at SDCC. When you start looking a little harder, it becomes a bit more obvious what's changed since her debut. First, Supergirl is no longer saluting, she's waving from the asteroids she's floating near. Her smile has also been widened a bit to make it more clear she's actually smiling, and not merely flashing her teeth out of awkward courtesy. The make-up/skin tone of her head seems to have been dialed down a bit too.

The posing hasn't changed much beyond that, which is fine with me. The pose captures Kara quite well, even if the skirt is on the verge of a tad too short. We could argue about the realism of her hair, clothes and cape being windswept in space, but it certainly helps make her a tad more dynamic. And yes, I understand there are solar winds, but they don't quite have the same effect as a breezy day here on planet Earth. You could have gotten the same effect by posing her with some sculpted clouds instead of space rocks, but now we're getting pretty nitpicky.

In addition to the regular edition of Supergirl, Sideshow will also offer an exclusive version that includes Streaky the Supercat flying by her side. A nice touch for longtime fans of the character, and one that isn't so crucial that missing out on the exclusive would be that big a deal.

Sideshow's Supergirl Premium Format Figure is available for pre-order now for $424.99, and is expected to arrive during Q1 2017.
