On sale now is the six-hundred and twenty-second issue of Marvel Comics' Journey Into Mystery, which is the first issue written by Kieron Gillen. A ComicsAlliance favorite for his work on Phonogram, Gillen returns to the world of Thor, Loki and the rest of Marvel's Asgardian mythology for what he intends to be a 30-40-issue epic with a planned beginning and end. Illustrated by Doug Braithwaite and Ulises Arreloa, the revival of Journey Into Mystery is off to an auspicious start, and it's one you can preview below.Writing on his blog, Gillen described his approach to Thor in Journey Into Mystery as "existing at a point between Sandman and Queen and Country - so Sandmanbaggers, really," and noted that The Mighty Thor writer Matt Fraction characterized Gillen's work as "Asgardian Tintin."

Despite its relationship to Marvel's line-wide Siege and Fear Itself crossovers, Gillen's designed Journey Into Mystery #622 to function as the beginning of his own sprawling narrative.

What most pleases me about the first issue of Journey Into Mystery is that it's wearing so many hats simultaneously without suffering for it. I mean, it's a book that not only ties directly in to the current enormous crossover (FEAR ITSELF) - it also feeds off directly off the lastenormous crossover (SIEGE), and adds to your understanding of both. Yet simultaneously it's the start of a closed loop of what I'll hope will be 30-40 issues with a planned beginning and end, designed to be read without reference to anything else other than what's between those covers. And simultaneously it's the sister book to Matt's THE MIGHTY THOR, with his epic arc dovetailing with mine. It does a lot of stuff, and depending how you approach Journey Into Mystery, you can get a lot of things out of it.

Journey Into Mystery #622 is on sale now at comics stores everywhere and can also be purchased online from Things From Another World.
