Because juggling two relationships wasn't enough a challenge, this fall Archie is taking on the undead. Launching in October is Afterlife With Archie, a new monthly series from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla about Archie, Betty, Veronica and the gang fighting off a zombie invasion in Riverdale.

Archie Comics will be showing a promotional trailer for the new series at a panel on Saturday, but The Hollywood Reporter debuted it today, and you can check it out below.

When we spoke to Aguirre-Sacasa about the series, he told us how the idea for the series came about:

You know, it’s really as simple as I was having breakfast with Jon Goldwater and a couple of other people, his son Jesse was there as well, and saying “by the way, I loved that zombie cover that Francesco Francavilla did for Life With Archie.” He said “Wasn’t that amazing?” and I told him I was so disappointed when I picked up the issue, got home and opened it and it wasn’t about zombies. It was just the usual comic book.

Then we kind of all had a moment, and I actually don’t even know who said it first, but we were all like “that would be a great comic book.” We said it at the same time, and it was as easy as that.

The zombie invasion of Riverdale is caused by Reggie, who runs over and kills Jughead's dog Hot Dog. Jughead has Sabrina the Teenage Witch revive the poor pooch, but then he bites Jughead, infecting him, and the infection spreads from there.

"Archie Comics: The Hottest Publisher in the Industry" panel takes place July 20 at noon in Room 9.
