Everyone loves trivia about their favorite animated features and series, but with over 100 years of animation history behind us right now, there’s always some new obscure fact to learn. That’s why ComicsAlliance is going deep into the minutiae of your favorite names in cartoons in this continuing video series. You think you know cartoons? Well, here’s a few things you might not know!

This week we're looking at Dexter's Laboratory, Genndy Tartakovsky's story of a boy genius whose brilliance can only be thwarted by his annoying older sister Dee Dee. Dexter's Lab was one of Cartoon Network's earliest original series, and its great success changed the tenor of the network as it subsequently focused on producing new series instead of rerunning classics, as well as making a star out of Tartakovsky. This video looks at the history of the series from its conception and creation, to its stop and restart, to the episodes you aren't supposed to see.

Show notes:

  • Hey, you might as well start from the beginning. Dexter's Lab season one can be found here.
  • The original DC Comics based on Dexter's Lab can be found here.
  • That's about it for available Dexter merchandise.

Check out some installments of our other video series below, and let us know which cartoon series you think we should cover next in You Think You Know Cartoons?
