On sale this week is Doctor Who: A Fairytale Life #1, the latest installment of IDW Publishing's successful franchise based on the legendary British science fiction television series. Written by Eisner-nominee Matt Sturges (Jack of Fables, House of Mystery) with artwork by Kelly Yates (Doctor Who: The Forgotten) and covers by Mark Buckingham (Fables, Death: The Time of Your Life), A Fairytale Life finds the Doctor traveling to a world of medieval fantasy. Naturally, companion Amy Pond is hugely inconvenienced by the entire ordeal, especially by the uncomfortable clothing she's got to wear. You can check out a preview below.

If you're like nerdcore rapper Adam WarRock and could write a whole song about how you've never seen an episode of Doctor Who in your life, you may wish to consider checking out IDW's new four-issue miniseries. Given his work on the anarchic fantasy comic Jack of Fables, Matt Sturges is an inspired choice to tell the story of the Doctor and Amy and their endearing quirkiness running up against the conventions of medieval times.

Doctor Who: A Fairytale Life #1 goes on sale this week in finer comics stores and can be purchased online at Things From Another World.

What's better: an ugly reality or beautiful fantasy? This is the question the Doctor is forced to confront in a medieval fantasy world where Amy finds herself reluctantly cast as a damsel in distress. Matt Sturges, Eisner Award-nominated writer of Jack of Fables, spins this yarn, featuring covers by Mark Buckingham of Miracleman and Fables fame.
