Back in December, Sony Pictures announced that it was going full-force with its Spider-Man franchise, not just with a followup to the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie, but with Venom and Sinister Six movies to boot.

The directors for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Venom were already in place at the time of that announcement (Marc Webb is sticking with the main series and Alex Kurtzman will handle Venom), but Sinister Six's director wasn't yet confirmed. Now, it seems like an almost-done deal that screenwriter Drew Goddard, who directed The Cabin in the Woods and is also writing the new Netflix Daredevil series, will have the job.

There's no indication yet just which villains will be in the movie version of the Sinister Six (which has had various combinations of Doctor Octopus, The Sandman, Mysterio, The Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, various goblins, Venom, Rhino, The Lizard, and other assorted villains over the years), but some of the pieces are already in place. Rhino and Electro both appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Lizard was the main antagonist of the first movie.

There's no release date set for the movie, either, but Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out May 2. Sony has announced release dates for the third and fourth movies in the series on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018, respectively.
