Feathers #1, Archaia

Now that this whole vampire trend that's been dominating media has finally started to cool down, it's time for us to predict what's going to be next. Werewolves have been done and mummies seem pretty unlikely, so if I had to guess, I'd say that the next big thing is going to be bird people. Just folks covered in feathers everywhere 2K15, you mark my words.

Or at least, that's the impression that I'm getting from the announcement of Archaia's newest comic, Jorge Corona's Feathers, which launches in January with a six-issue miniseries. Corona will tell the story of a feather-covered boy named Poe who makes a friend for the first time in his life, and attempts to guide her home through a world of twisted back alleys and smoky chimneys, and it looks amazing.

Corona, who previously worked on titles like Teen TItans Go, is relatively new to comics, but originally created Feathers as part of his thesis while attending the Savannah College of Art and Design. As someone who does a lot of cons in the Southeast, I see a lot of work from SCAD students and graduates that's incredibly impressive, and I could not be more excited to see what Corona can bring to the table with an all-ages book.

The first issue of the series will be released in January, featuring covers by Corona, Ramón K. Pérez and Ken Nimura:

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: A recluse boy born covered in feathers must help his first-ever friend, a young girl named Bianca, return to her home beyond the slums of the Maze. They must dodge street gangs and child-snatchers along the way, and perhaps together will learn the secrets to his mysterious past.
