FOX’s Gotham has only expanded as we approach the Season 2 premiere, adding more regulars and Batty villains than we can count, but may finally have stumbled over its own size. Two more of Gotham’s finest won’t return for Season 2 as series regulars, while a new international trailer spotlights lunatics running Arkham Asylum this time out.

Per TVLine, neither Victoria Cartagena nor Andrew Stewart-Jones will return to their Gotham roles of DC detectives Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen, at least as series regulars. Despite being regulars the first time around (Cartagena’s Montoya even got the spotlight as Barbara’s ex-lover), the pair barely appeared in the second half of the season, but may return in a guest capacity here and there.

And speaking of Barbara, a new international trailer for Season 2 gives us a closer look at Gordon’s former fiancee in her new home at Arkham Asylum, looking reasonably cozy with a certain Jerome, who may or may not be (but totally is, until they decide he isn’t, because Gotham) our future Joker.

Elsewhere of Gotham Season 2, we know the second run will make series regulars of Drew Powell’s Butch Gilzean, Chris Chalk’s Lucius Fox, Nicholas D’Agosto’s Harvey Dent, and Morena Baccarin’s Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Producers will incorporate such Bat-baddies as Clayface, the Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Tommy Elliot, and potentially even the Court of Owls, while early episodes will serve as a “pre-embryonic” (sigh) origin story for the Joker.

In addition to Natalie Alyn Lind’s Silver St. Cloud and True Detective star James Frain’s role as sinister philanthropist Theo Galavan, Gotham Season 2 will also feature Michael Chiklis as Captain Nathaniel Barnes, Jessica Lucas as Galavan’s sister (and future Tigress) Tabitha, along with Dustin Ybarra as a homicidal cannibal.

Gotham Season 2 will return on Mondays this fall, but take a look at the two teasers below while we wait. Will Season 2 tighten anything up by its cast changes?
