Toy Fair 2014: MattyCollector Concludes The DC Universe Classics Line With A ‘Super Powers’ Twist

Good news for fans of Kenner’s legendary 1980s DC Comics action figures: Mattel is concluding the DC Universe Classics line with a fun Super Powers homage. This week at Toy Fair 2014, MattyCollector announced that it will be releasing a special DC Universe Super Powers figures this fall, reissuing figures from its 6″ tall Four Horsemen-sculpted DC Universe line with some modifications and new colorways in Kenner’s bright comic book-style spirit. But that’s not all Mattel revealed at Toy Fair — fans also got a look at Firestorm from the 5.25″ tall Total Justice line and new info about a 7-pack of 4″ Batman figures.

The DC Universe Super Powers line will be a little bittersweet for longtime collectors, as it caps the DC Universe Classics line’s 7-year-and-scores-of-figures-long run. Those looking for basic characters will be pleased to see that there’s handy versions of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, while more hardcore collectors will be excited to see the Gold Superman, Mr. Mxyzptlk and Green Lantern (as The Riddler) action figures — all of which come with a piece of a buildable Kalibak figure in his SP brown colorscheme. The “Riddler” figure is a surprisingly upbeat homage to Argentinian toy company Pacipa’s El Acertijo/Riddler release from its officially licensed Coleccion Super Amigos line, which repainted the Super Powers Green Lantern sculpt. Each figure will come packed in special blister cards modeled after Kenner’s original SP packaging.

One of the quarterly deluxe 6″ DC Universe Total Heroes figures for 2014, the TH Firestorm is packed with energy blasts and swappable heads of his fused humans Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch.

The Batman 7-Pack is “set” in the sewers of Gotham City and will include Batman, Azrael Batman, Red Robin, Nightwing, Two Face, The Joker and Mega Solomon Grundy when it arrives this fall. Images haven’t been revealed, but it’s safe to assume these toys will be akin to the DC Multiverse Batman Arkham Origins toys that’ve recently arrived in stores.
