The Delinquents: A Beginner's Guide to 'Quantum & Woody'
Valiant Comics‘ shared superhero universe is smaller and less familiar than those of its major rivals, but even a small shared universe can offer a lot to learn about. To help those readers looking to take the plunge into the Valiant Universe, we’ve assembled our own team of delinquents to break things down. Steve Morris knows Valiant inside out; J.A. Micheline is new to the universe. Micheline has the questions, and Morris has the answers. In April, JAM and Steve covered Divinity and Unity, which sort of bummed JAM out as an exercise. So in order to see if we can get a bit of verve and fun back into Valiant, this month we’re going for one of the most entertaining books the publisher has put out since the relaunch --- Quantum & Woody, the adventures of two extremely dysfunctional brothers who are sort-of trying to be superheroes.

Tom Fowler Launches 'Dungeons & Dragons & Doodles' Kickstarter
Tom Fowler is one of the best artists going and has been for a very long time, but as much as I've enjoyed his work in comics, my favorite project he's done is unquestionably D&D&D. Originally posted on Tumblr, it's a series of sketches inspired by his exploits in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, full of monsters, broadswords, and frequently naked giants charging into battle. Now, Fowler's collecting those sketches into a 100-page hardcover art book, and he's funding the project with a Kickstarter campaign that you're probably going to want to be a part of.

Tom Fowler Pitches In To Norm Breyfogle Medical Fundraiser
Last month, we brought you the news that legendary Batman artist Norm Breyfogle had suffered a stroke and turned to crowdfunding to help cover his medical bills as a result. The good news is that the comics community has come together to raise over $60,000 so far. The bad news is that the total still falls far short of the goal of $200,000. Plenty of readers have already donated, but if you need something else to entice you, it has arrived: Artist Tom Fowler has just finished a beautiful painting of a "battle-damaged' Batman (complete with missing ear), and is now auctioning it off on his website, with 100% of the money raised going to help Breyfogle.

Norm Breyfogle Turns To Crowdfunding To Cover Medical Expenses
Last week, ComicsAlliance brought you the news that legendary artist Norm Breyfogle, whose beautiful, stylized art graced the pages of Batman and Detective Comics from 1990 to 1996, was hospitalized after suffering a stroke. While Breyfogle is expected to recover with time, the stroke has unfortunately left him paralyzed on his left side, which is particularly devastating since Breyfogle is a left-handed artist. The stay at the hospital and his treatment have wiped out Breyfogle's savings and left him with $200,000 in medical expenses. Like so many veterans of the comics industry, Breyfogle doesn't have insurance to cover these costs. As a result, his family is turning to a crowdfunding campaign to cover Beyfogle's treatment and, hopefully, help him fully recover.

Marvel Announces Rocket Raccoon And Groot Homage Covers
So it turns out that, defying any expectations that we may have had five years ago, Rocket Raccoon and Groot are the most popular characters in the most popular movie of the summer. In other words, get used to seeing them literally everywhere -- starting with 20 of Marvel's comics for November, where the talking tree and his surly procyonid pal are taking over with a series of variant covers. Even better, the variants are homages to classic Marvel covers, ranging from classics like Captain America's reappearance in the Marvel Universe back in Avengers #4 to one of the most obscure and self-referential homages that I've ever seen. It's actually pretty amazing.

Best Convention Sketchbook Ever: Original Art From Comic-Con
Over the past few years, I've been toting around themed sketchbooks to conventions to get pieces of art from some of my favorite comic book creators, based on Jack Kirby's creations and tokusatsu heroes. This summer, however, I decided to switch things up a little and go with a much broader theme, since some people are not as familiar with the past 40 years of Kamen Rider as I'd like them to be. The result: A sketchbook full of my favorite characters. Now that I've been through HeroesCon and San Diego, I've gathered up a pretty solid bunch to start out with, and they're pretty amazing. Check below for this summer's crop of sketches from artists like Chris Burnham, Tom Fowler, Joëlle Jones, Ben Dewey and more!

Summer is in full swing, which means that convention season is upon us once again, and with it, the opportunity to get art from some of your favorite comic book creators. As much as I like digging through back issue bins and hanging out with pals from across the country, filling up my sketchbook is one of the most fun parts of going to conventions. So much, in fact, that I actually had two in circulation this year. One was continuing my theme of tokusatsu characters like the Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, while the other was just a general collection of favorite characters. Which, as you might expect, ended up with two drawings of Destro. Check out the new pieces below, featuring art from Tom Fowler, Kevin Mellon, Tom Scioli, Jordan Gibson and more!
