Welcome to Recon:Vergence, a weekly look at what’s going on throughout DC’s new reality-smooshing event storyline, Convergence.
Every week until the end of the event, every comic DC publishes will be a part of this giant storyline – and it’s a little confusing, especially for new readers. To help out, we’re going to provide a timeline of events, let you know which Universes are still in the fight, and try and keep everything on track.
And with last week starting things off proper, now seems the best time to recap what happened, to who, and why.
Three years ago, DC Comics hit the continuity reset button with the launch of The New 52, seemingly wiping away the past 26 years of stories since Crisis on Infinite Earths.
But like superheroes, no story stays dead forever.
Next April, DC launches Convergence, a nine-part event series that brings the publisher's regular publishing schedule to a halt while bringing characters, places and concepts from DC's past into its current universe. It's also the culmination of the weekly series The New 52: Futures End and Earth 2: World's End, both of which wrap up just before Convergence launches.
When news broke that Kierron Gillen and Greg Land would be ushering in the latest era of Iron Man comic stories as part of Marvel Now, Gillen made it clear that fans would be seeing their share of new armors - one new suit per each of the first five issues, in fact.
