Get A Double-Shot Of Hedgehog-Based Entertainment In ‘Sonic Universe’ #89 And ‘Sonic Super Digest’ #17 [Preview]

Sonic Super Digest #17

I may not know much about Sonic The Hedgehog, but there's one interesting little piece of trivia about the comics that I am absolutely fascinated by. Despite the fact that DC has recently returned Action Comics and Detective Comics to their original numbering, placing them somewhere in the mid-900s, the core Sonic the Hedgehog comic stands at 285 issues and counting as the longest-running monthly American comic book that has not been rebooted, renumbered, or otherwise restarted. It's been on the stands every month since 1993!

Throw in all the spin-off titles, and that means that there's a lot of Sonic content out there. So much so, in fact, that with Sonic Universe hitting #89 next week, there's enough Sonic content out there that the reprint-focused Sonic Super Digest is on its 17th issue. So why not celebrate the continued reign of a blue hedgehog who runs fast with a preview of both titles?

Eggman Won’t Be Bossed Around in Sonic Universe #83 [Preview]

Archie Comics
Archie Comics

No one ever said being bad was easy, but Sonic the Hedgehog's main rival Eggman just can't buy a break. Not only does Eggman constantly have to deal with the Blue Blur and his friends mucking up his latest world domination plan, but he's also got all the other evil villains of Mobius to contend with. Now, Eggman's got to turn his eye from fending off Sonic to recapturing his own fortress from a devious duo in order to keep his spot as Big Bad Numero Uno.

Fortunately for Eggman, his genius in creating robots to do all his dirty work for him will come in handy. Where two wizards might pose a problem for just one mere man, no matter how great his intelligence, they're hardly a match for an army of Egg Bosses. When you absolutely, positively have to put some up and coming villains in their place, what better tactic than to throw everything you have at them. Check out Eggman going big or going home in the preview for Sonic Universe #83.

Sonic Goes Capcom and Sega Crazy in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ #275 [Exclusive]

Sonic#275

The days of Sonic the Hedgehog being confined to his own, Sega-centric universe are long over --- he's met Mega Man in comics and done Olympic events with Mario in games --- but the speedy blue guy has quite possibly never been to a world as expansive as the one he's going to experience in August's Sonic the Hedgehog #275 from Archie.

Not only is Mega Man involved in part eleven of the huge "Worlds Unite" event, but lots of other Capcom and Sega worlds will be part of the story, too. Street Fighter, Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS into Dreams and Monster Hunter are among the other franchises in the mix. Check out our exclusive reveal of covers by artists Patrick "Spaz" Spaziante, Edwin Haung, Lamar Wells, Tracy Yardley, and Rafa Knight!

‘Life With Archie’ To Confront Gun Violence In This Week’s Penultimate Issue

lwa-36-hed

We've known for a few months now that Archie Comics' Life With Archie series, about the possible adult lives of the Riverdale teens, will end with lead character Archie Andrews' death. Life With Archie #36 hits stands this week, and thanks to an interview with Archie publisher Jon Goldwater for the AP, we now know that this is where Archie meets his end -- and we know how it will happen.

Readers who don't want to know too many specifics before the issue goes on sale should avoid reading any further, and perhaps also avoid the comics sections of the internet entirely for a couple of days.
