Dynamite Announces ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Ongoing, Restoring Erotic Friend Fiction To Shelves For The Foreseeable Future

Bobs00

I don't know how it happened, but we're living in this weird golden age of licensed comics based on movies and TV shows, and one of the most surprising and fun parts of that was the Bob's Burgers miniseries that kicked off last year. Featuring writers and artists who have worked on the show, each issue was divided into three main sections built around the Belcher kids: A mystery featuring Louise, a "musical" written and performed by Gene, and, in what was perhaps the best thing to happen in comics in 2014, Tina's Erotic Friend Fiction.

Over the past year or so, comics publishers have jumped onto the online bundle bandwagon with both feet, offering up deals via HumbleBundle and StoryBundle, among other outlets.

Now, Dynamite is trying a deal through yet another medium: BitTorrent. The publisher's "Mega Bundle" from BitTorrent Bundle includes 200-some issues of comics from 30 different series including Vampirella, Red Sonja, Bob's Burgers, Django/Zorro, The Green Hornet and Shaft, all for just $6.

Oh My God: Dynamite’s ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Comic Book Is Seriously Great [Erotic Friend Fiction]

Bob's Burgers #1, Dynamite Entertainment

Traditionally speaking, TV tie-in comics have been a pretty mixed bag. The ones that are bad tend to fall flat pretty hard, ranging from forgettable to outright terrible. Occasionally, it's because they feel like cheap cash-ins, but more often, it's just a simple case of the tie-in not being able to capture the same spirit and feeling of the source material. But sometimes, every once in a while, you get something like the Bill and Ted's Excellent Comic Book series that Evan Dorkin did for Marvel back in the '90s, where he took the Wyld Stallyns on a full year of increasingly bizarre adventures and ended up making something that's actually amazing, or the recent Eisner-winning Adventure Time comics.

This week marked the launch of Dynamite's Bob's Burgers comic, and while it's only one issue in, I'm already going to go ahead and say that it goes far beyond capturing the spirit of the show, to the point where it feels like it could be a lost episode. It's not just a great translation of Bob's Burgers to comics, it's great Bob's Burgers, period.

Mostly because it starts with Erotic Friend Fiction about Tina being a horse.

Just as Comic-Con International is getting going, Dynamite Entertainment has announced it acquired a slew of high-profile TV licenses that will turn into comics in the near future. NBC's Heroes will be making its return as a comic with writer Cullen Bunn, The Twilight Zone will get a new series written by J. Michael Straczynski, and Robotech will cross over with Voltron. But the one I'm really excited about? The Fox animated series Bob's Burgers is coming to comics.
