Colleen Coover Brings Yvonne Craig’s Batgirl to ‘Batman ’66’, One Of The Best Drawn Bat-Books In Years

Batman '66 Batgirl Colleen Coover Eartha Kitt Catwoman

It just was only last week that we got word that actress Yvonne Craig had signed a licensing agreement with DC Comics parent Warner Bros. to allow the production and sale of new merchandise and other products -- the first in literally decades -- based on her likeness as Batgirl, one of the most beloved figures from the great Batman television series of the 1960s. It would seem that preparations were well underway before the announcement, because today DC has confirmed the first appearance of Craig's Batgirl in the pages of its startlingly good comics series Batman '66. On sale this week, the story will be written by the book's ongoing writer Jeff Parker and feature artwork by ComicsAlliance favorite Colleen Coover, who joins cover artist Michael Allred and storytellers Jonathan Case, Joe Quinones and Ty Templeton in making Batman '66 one of the very best looking Bat-books DC has published in years.

Best Art Ever (This Week) – 09.06.13

Untitled-112

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great images on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, and some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it’s awesome.

Dave Johnson’s Designs For An Unproduced ‘Micronauts’ Cartoon Will Make You Angry This Show Doesn’t Exist

Micronauts lede

Never let it be said that Dave Johnson isn't good to his Twitter followers. After last week's reveal of the five connected covers for Vertigo's 100 Bullets Omnibuses, today the artist, who promised something special when he reached 10,000 followers, posted his designs for a criminally unproduced animated version of Micronauts, inspired by the 1980s Marvel comic from Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden, considered by many to be a standout series from that era.

Dave Johnson Reveals Complete ‘100 Bullets’ Omnibus Cover Montage

100 Bullets lede

Since its beginning in 1999, it's possible that no cover artist has left as indelible a mark on a comic series as Dave Johnson has with his work on 100 Bullets. The acclaimed illustrator provided each cover for all 100 issues of the original series, a new cover for each subsequent trade paperback, and is now illustrating every cover for the Brother Lono miniseries that spun out of the 100 Bullets universe. Further, Johnson has created new covers for the five omnibus editions of the series, with the pieces connecting to show one continuous illustration.

Yesterday via Twitter, Johnson released for the first time the complete, connected work, and you can check it out below.

A Corpse, A Mission And A Talk On Chastity In ‘Brother Lono’ # 2 [Preview]

Lono hed

Brother Lono is back. The entire team from 100 Bullets -- Brian Azzarello, Eduardo Risso, Trish Mulvihill, Clem Robins and Dave Johnson -- is together again for Brother Lono, a new miniseries starring the character who proved to be a favorite among readers of the celebrated crime series. In the first issue of the eight part story, Lono was released from prison and tasked with escorting a young nun, who's just arrived in Mexico, to a mission. But if events in the first issue -- including a rotting corpse on a bus station bench in broad daylight -- are any indication, that's not going to be easy.

Vertigo has provided ComicsAlliance with a five page preview of Brother Lono #2, which you can check out below.
