When the first Captain America movie came out in 2011, the character seemed like a tough sell. His earnest patriotism felt dated to many and was alienating to some.
Marvel Studios has made a habit of landing tough sells. Neither Iron Man nor Thor were the obvious calls that they look like in retrospect, while the plan to tie the characters together in The Avengers was an ambitious gamble. Yet if Marvel ever has any doubts, it never shows in their movies. As Captain America returns to the screen in The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios has never looked more confident.
The brooding former Howling Commando with a sweet robot arm (and maybe a heart of gold?) known as The Winter Soldier is getting his 1/6 scale collectible figure due from Hot Toys later this year. No, it won't be available for several months after Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in theaters on April 4, but once you know its stylin' secret, you might consider the figure well worth the wait.
If Marvel Studios isn't careful, it's going to end up posting the entirety of Captain America: The Winter Soldier on YouTube well in advance of the movie's release next month.
But that's not for us to worry about. All we need to do is watch the minute-long clip released today that reveals how Cap and The Winter Soldier first crossed paths (as far as they know, anyway). It involves a lot of Cap just running straight through closed doors, windows and walls. It's almost as intense as the combat-heavy four minutes of the movie released last week. Check it out after the jump!
Marvel has a new gallery of images (set to autoplaying music, you should be warned) that showcase not only Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, but Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as The Falcon, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier himself. In fact, it's probably the best clear look we've gotten at the character. Check out the images (with no autoplaying music) after the jump!
Funko's 3.75" Pop! Vinyl line will welcome the latest movie incarnation of Marvel's Sentinel of Liberty (and company) this spring with a four-figure set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier figures. Set to arrive in March in anticipation of The First Avenger sequel's April 4 release date, the line will include fresh versions of Cap, Black Widow, and two versions of The Winter Soldier himself.
Hasbro revealed a number of new 6" Legends-scale action figures and 3.75" toys last night at its pre-New York Comic Con party. Among them? New Captain America: The Winter Soldier action figures, plus The Amazing Spider-Man 2movie toys including Electro as portrayed by Jamie Foxx. Ultimate Spider-Man was also represented with a new 6" Ultimate Green Goblin build-a-figure as part of the Spider-Man Legends Infinite series, which also includes new Black Cat, Beetle, Carnage and Superior Spider-Man. Cap fans will be happy to learn that the upcoming movie line will also include plenty of comic toys, including a Hydra soldier and a massive S.H.I.E.L.D. Mandroid build-a-figure. You can see all of our photos, plus Hasbro's official images, after the jump.
Early 2013 is going to be the time of year that Marvel Minimates fans will have the perfect response to the question, "What's Cap'penning?" Because... well... there's just a bunch of Captain America characters in Series 54, okay?! Jeeeez.
Shooting has now begun on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the studio has released the first photo from the set, seen above. With production underway, Marvel Entertainment has announced the final cast for the film, including Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackso
