If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.
This week we're looking at the top five science heroes in comics!
When I hear the word "superhero," the image that pops into my head looks an awful lot like the way Chris Sprouse draws his characters. The clean lines, the heroic proportions, the larger-than-life action and adventure that go along with it, those are all things that Sprouse has mastered in a career that spans three decades.
Today, July 30, marks his birthday and that means it's an even better time than it usually is to celebrate his work.
Arriving in stores this week is Tom Strong and the Planet of Peril#6. Created by Alan Moore and Chris Sprouse, the original Tom Strong series launched in 1999 under the America's Best Comics imprint. The series ran for 36 issues, and along the way featured many guest writers and artists, including a few stand out issues written by Peter Hogan. Since then, Hogan has joined Sprouse and Karl Story for two well-received Tom Strong minseries, the second of which concludes this week. This latest tale features a pregnant Tesla Strong fighting for her life, while her father and husband seek a cure. But the only way to save her has seemingly come at the cost of her husband's life.

Tom Strong is returning to comics this summer with a new miniseries, Tom Strong and the Planet of Peril, from longtime series artist Chris Sprouse and writer Peter Hogan.
