X-Men Apocalypse

A few months ago, Bryan Singer revealed some concept art from X-Men: Apocalypse, which featured Angel in a cage with his glorious wings fully expanded. The latest set photo from the film shows Singer filming this sequence with Ben Hardy, and shines some more light on the context of the scene, which has something to do with a fight club.

X-Men: Apocalypse is spending some time shooting in Cairo (or whatever stands in for Cairo), which is not only the place where the big bad Apocalypse resides, but where Storm herself was raised. Director Bryan Singer previously teased Storm’s origin story in a recent set photo, and the latest update from set reiterates that idea with a photo of Storm gazing out at a storm over Cairo.

When an Entertainment Weekly cover revealed our first look at Oscar Isaac as the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, most fans were not impressed, drawing comparisons to cheesy Power Rangers villain Ivan Ooze. But, director Bryan Singer is back to defend the costume, saying it’s actually “very similar” to the comic book design, and has shared some new hi-res X-Men: Apocalypse photos at the same time.

Bryan Singer continues to update fans from the set of X-Men: Apocalypse, this time with an impressive photo that shows the scale and detail of the film’s set — in particular, an Egyptian set that may very well be home to Apocalypse, Oscar Isaac’s titular villain from the upcoming sequel.

We previously learned that neither Patrick Stewart nor Ian McKellen will be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse, as the new sequel focuses more on the younger cast. But Bryan Singer’s latest photo from the set may be giving fans a glimmer of hope, with Stewart paying the production a little visit.

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve gotten some sneak peeks at X-Men: Apocalypse via photos in Entertainment Weekly, featuring new characters like Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse, Olivia Munn’s Psylocke, and Alexandra Shipp’s Storm. But what about the other new, young mutants? 20th Century Fox has released a gallery of high-res photos featuring Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Cyclops and more.

“Shared universe” used to be a phrase that only got tossed around in comic book shops. It was the kind of phrase that would earn blank stares from the cool kids, often right before you were shoved into a locker. Now, all of those cool kids wear Avengers shirts and know that shared universes are the Next Big Thing in Hollywood, were sprawling franchises will tell various stories about various characters who happen to share the same world. This was popularized by Marvel Studios, but their arch-rival, 20th Century Fox, isn’t going to let them hog the spotlight. Oh, no. Director Bryan Singer has confirmed a rumor that’s been floating around for quite some time: the studio wants to spin-off the X-Men and the Fantastic Four into their own crossover movie.

That someone is likely Storm. As teased at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse’s titular big bad (played by Oscar Isaac) has origins in Egypt — he is likely the oldest mutant, and perhaps the very first. But he’s not the only one who comes from that part of the world. Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, grew up in Cairo, putting her right on Apocalypse’s home turf.

Oscar Isaac? Is that you? Yes, apparently it is. Isaac plays the title villain in the upcoming X-Men sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse. The character, an immortal mutant from ancient Egypt, is typically portrayed with an extremely elaborate harness, weird wire lips, and crazy blue and chalk-white skin. You had to wonder if director Bryan Singer would go another direction with Apocalypse to make Isaac more recognizable to viewers.

Stan Lee is perhaps the closest thing we’ll ever have to continuity between all the Marvel films. The legendary comic book creator has had cameos in just about every single Marvel movie regardless of studio affiliation, including X-Men, The Avengers and Spider-Man. He’s the only free agent able to move between properties, offering up silly little appearances in each Marvel movie with a friendly grandpa wink and a nod.
