Overdue for a new trailer though we are, The Walking Dead Season 6 teased plenty by its first footage at Comic-Con 2015, and the subsequent weeks. Now, with production deep into Season 6, new rumors suggest that The Walking Dead has already begun filming with a new major comic character, while casting calls suggest the next big bad will make an appearance before long.

Take this all with a few grains of salt for now, as well as spoiler warnings for Walking Dead adaptations from the comics by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, but where producers have previously spoken to the likelihood of comic badass Paul “Jesus” Monroe and the villainous Negan appearing before long, our day may finally have come. According to some reports from The Spoiling Dead, an unidentified actor has already begun filming his role as Jesus opposite Rick and Daryl, for which a brief scene description was included below.

In the comics, Jesus (so-named for his resemblance) acted as a go-between for Alexandria and the Hilltop community, and a competent fighter in his own right, whose sexuality formed the crux of those Daryl rumors last year. Assuming the report proves true, an on-set sighting of the character could place an official casting announcement in headlines before long.

Additionally, a recent casting call suggested that Season 6 would be casting the nefarious role of “Rich,” who could be tailored into an adaptation of Negan, but otherwise whom many fans have speculated to be Hilltop leader Gregory:

[RICH] 50s - early 60s. Please submit all ethnicities. Narcissistic, egotistical, quick to braggadocio and anger, his own skin is his principal concern. He feeds off the superiority of being in control, but he plays it off with Senator-like charm. He’s vibrant, and has the charisma of a car salesman…GUEST STAR, MAY RECUR THIS SEASON, WILL HAVE SERIES OPTION FOR SUBSEQUENT SEASONS

Thus far of The Walking Dead Season 6, we know that Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins has joined the series in the comic role of Alexandria runner Heath, alongside new additions Ethan Embry and Merrit Wever. AMC has also released clips and a few photos, amid previews of a fleshed-out comic backstory, while we’ve broken down the Season 6 trailer, and previewed exactly how grotesque walkers will look by the October 11 premiere.

Not only that, but Season 6 will also host installments of a half-hour special set on an airplane, a character of which will go on to a role in Fear The Walking Dead Season 2.

We’ll see more of The Walking Dead Season 6 on the road to October, so check out the trailers again below, and stay tuned for the latest from cast and crew.
