Today marks the first day of filming on X-Men: Apocalypse and to celebrate the beginning of a new X-Men adventure, director Bryan Singer revealed --- and then removed --- a first look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as your favorite teleporting mutant, Nightcrawler. BAMF!

Singer posted an animated shot of Nightcrawler to his Instagram account, where he's previously announced casting (Olivia Munn as Psylocke) and shared concept art (our confirmation that Ben Hardy is playing Angel). The Instagram has since been taken down, but we still have the full shot of Nightcrawler to share, and we've also included a GIF of the video/animation that was originally posted, below.

This is actually the second iteration of Nightcrawler that Singer has directed, after working with Alan Cumming's version on X2: X-Men United. The Apocalypse version seems to lack the tattooing/scarring of the previous version for a look more similar to the comics. It's hard to tell from the image, but it also looks like Nightcrawler is sporting a very 80s style hairdo (with the big floppy bangs brushed to the side).

Smit-McPhee is part of a cast that includes returning actors Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult plus newcomers like Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Alexandra Shipp (Storm) and Lana Condor (Jubilee). Hugh Jackman won't be returning as Wolverine, and this will be Jennifer Lawrence's last film as Mystique.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
