Even though it won't be released until next year, the promotion for the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past movie has already kicked into high gear. We've seen the site showing us glimpses of Bolivar Trask, Bolivar Trask's Amazing Moustache and a few grainy images of the Sentinels, but now, we finally know exactly what those things look like.

And as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about the X-Men, I'm pretty stoked to say that they went ahead and made it a giant purple robot with a machine gun arm. All is as it should be.

The Sentinels are, of course, giant robots created by Bolivar Trask and manufactured inside the tummy of an even larger robot, and they have been giving the X-Men no end of trouble since the '60s. Considering the title and the fact that Chris Claremont and John Byrne are given a story credit on the IMDB, one can assume that the Gatling gun on the right arm is only one of the Sentinel's many attack options, some of which have the ability to vaporize everything but an adamantium skeleton.

Uh, spoiler warning for an alternate-future comic that came out 32 years ago, I guess?

Either way, it's pretty exciting to see that they actually went ahead and built a Sentinel for the movie, especially since its feet look (to me, anyway) like it's wearing a pair of Reeboks. One can only hope that the Sentinel decides to pump it up before taking on Wolverine.
