LEGO DC Super-Heroes Sets

Price: $9.99 - $49.99

Of all the news that came out of this year's San Diego Comic-Con, it's pretty safe to say that I was most excited about the news that LEGO was not only reviving their line of awesome Batman sets, but that they'd be expanding things out to the whole darn DC Universe. And now, just in time for the holidays, the new sets are finally available and they look awesome. The first wave is pretty Batman-heavy, and I have absolutely no problem with that, especially when there's a a set that lets you dangle Robin over a barrel of man-eating Joker fish in a creepy funhouse:

There's also a set with the Batwing taking on the Joker's helicopter, the Batmobile stopping Two-Face's two-tone monster truck from robbing a bank, and Batman chasing down Catwoman by using a jetpack. But while we've seen a lot of that stuff before in the last (increasingly hard-to-find) wave of Batman LEGO sets, this one brings something new: Superman, Wonder Woman, and Lex Luthor:

I love the design of Lex's gigantic power armor -- I was a huge fan of the Gundam-esque Exo-Force line from a few years back -- but the new Wonder Woman minifigure alone is a pretty big selling point for this one.

It's also worth noting that, according to the boxes, the DC LEGO sets are also packaged with comic books:

Mine haven't arrived yet, but I've got the sneaking suspicion that these are along the lines of the comics in the LEGO club newsletter, where the characters are actually drawn LEGO-style. It's a pretty nice touch, though, and much like bundling Arkham City comics with the iPad game, is a great attempt to get comics in the hands of people who already like the characters.

The first wave of DC LEGO sets are in stores now and available online (with free shipping on orders over $50, which works out to two or three sets), but sadly, that new LEGO Batcave we showed you back in October isn't among them. If, however, you want to get started on building your own LEGO Batcave, then you might want to check out the $99.99 Dino Defense HQ set, which comes complete with a giant green T-Rex:

And given those other two dinosaurs it comes with, that one can pull double duty as the Dinosaur Comics box set.
