‘Action Comics’ #900 Celebrates Superman with All-Star Creators [Preview]

On sale now is the 900th issue of Action Comics, the second-longest running DC Comics title after Detective Comics. The publisher is celebrating the occasion with a 96-page anniversary that includes contributions from noted celebrated Superman fans like Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof; The Dark Knight co-writer David Goyer; Superman: The Movie director Richard Donner; and famous comics writers and artists like Geoff Johns & Gary Frank, Paul Dini, Dan Jurgens, Brian Stelfreeze, Alex Ross, David Finch and Adam Hughes, among others. And of course, Action Comics #900 concludes the thrilling “The Black Ring” storyline by Paul Cornell and Pete Woods, spotlighting Lex Luthor, and begins the series’ next big Superman epic.

Check out a preview below.Launched in April of 1938, Action Comics is best known for introducing the world to Superman, who continues to anchor the title to this day — even when he’s not in it. Indeed, the Man of Steel has been away on a separate adventure, leaving Action Comics in the hands of villain Lex Luthor, around whom Paul Cornell and Pete Woods have crafted the highly acclaimed “The Black Ring” storyline, part one of which is available in a handsome hardcover volume.

Put simply, the story follows Luthor on his relentless quest for power throughout the DC Universe, and includes an encounter with Death herself. The storyline concludes in Action #900, which sees Superman return for a major showdown with Lex and to set up the next big summer storyline to unfold in the pages of the venerable series.

From DC’s The Source blog:

As a bonus, Dan Jurgens, Rags Morales, Ardian Syaf, Jamal Igle and Gary Frank are each contributing their artistic talents to special segments of this main story.

But wait, there’s more!

Action #900 will contain short comic stories by:

-Damon Lindelof & Ryan Sook
- David Goyer & Miguel Sepulveda
- Geoff Johns & Gary Frank – Paul Dini & RB Silva

And that’s STILL not enough…

Richard Donner and Derek Hoffman collaborated on a story that’ll be presented in a screenplay format that we’ll run alongside storyboards by Matt Camp.

Brian Stelfreeze adds in a two-page spread showing the evolution of Superman throughout the decades, drawn in the art styles of some of Superman’s most well-known artists.

Action Comics #900 is on sale now in comics stores everywhere and can be purchased online from Things From Another World.
