Shooting has now begun on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the studio has released the first photo from the set, seen above. With production underway, Marvel Entertainment has announced the final cast for the film, including Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson reprising their roles, and confirming a previously reported role for legendary actor Robert Redford.Spinning out of the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel's The Avengers, the new film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (the duo who wrote the screenplays for the first Captain America film and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World), the film features a major role for the Black Widow as she teams with Cap to "to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, DC". The film will also feature Redford as senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Alexander Pierce, a seldom used character from the Marvel universe who will likely serve a very different role in the film. Created by Bob Harras and Paul Neary, this is actually Pierce's second appearance in a Marvel film -- he was previously featured in the TV film Nick Fury: Agent of Shield, starring David Hasselhoff.

Aside from the main trio of Evans, Johansson and Jackson, other actors reprising their turns in previous Marvel films include Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola and Maximiliano Hernández as Agent Jasper Sitwell. Newcomers to the Marvel film universe include Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc (a.k.a. Batroc The Leaper), and Emily VanCamp as Agent 13.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in theaters April 4, 2014.
