'Kamen Rider Ghost' Is The Year's Spookiest New Hero
So here's the good news: If the impending spookiness of Halloween has you in the mood for horror-themed superheroics, Kamen Rider Ghost has finally made its debut. As the latest series in the long-running tokusatsu franchise, Ghost combines all the dirtbikes and jumpkicks that we've come to expect from Kamen Rider with a premise that feels like the Japanese equivalent of Kid Eternity, focusing on Takeru, a young ghost hunter killed in the line of duty, who has to collect the souls of dead heroes so that he can use their power to wish himself back to life. And here's the bad news: It's only airing in Japan.

With 800 episodes over the course of 22 years, the Power Rangers television show is arguably the single most successful live-action superhero franchise of all time, and certainly one of the strangest. Adapted from Japan's long-running Super Sentai series, created by manga legend Shotaro Ishinomori, the Power Rangers combined the giant robots and monsters of their Japanese counterpart with a completely different set of secret identities and problems, and became a pop cultural phenomenon. That's why we're looking back with an in-depth guide to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, including its source material, Kyuoryu Sentai Zyuranger, in ComicsAlliance's Ranger Station! This week, Trini collects creepy dolls and the Zyurangers beat up an actual, literal child, so yes, it's going to be a good one.

As much as I'm looking forward to seeing it on the big screen, I'll admit that I've been more than a little apprehensive about the upcoming Power Rangers movie. A lot of that has just been me being a grumpy fan who fears change, but without a whole lot of details on what to expect, the mind starts wandering to the horrifying possibility of a gritty reboot. Now, though, we've finally gotten some details, and as someone who spends a whole lot of time thinking about the Power Rangers, I have to confess that it sounds pretty awesome. According to an article at Collider, the new movie might not be as much of a reboot as we thought, but rather a big-screen continuation of the franchise set after the events of the current series, Power Rangers Dino Charge. And what's more, it's going to involve the return of a pretty unexpected villain. If you don't mind spoilers, read on!

It feels like I've said this somewhere before, but Power Rangers is arguably the most successful live-action superhero franchise of all time. It's been running virtually uninterrupted since 1993, and this week, it's about to hit a major milestone. "Sync or Swim," the episode airing on Saturday, isn't just the 13th episode of the current season, Dino Charge --- it's the 800th episode of the series. To mark the occasion, we've got an exclusive clip of the episode featuring a team-up between the Gold Ranger and the Red Ranger, and as someone who has actually watched all 800 episodes, I am almost positive that they're celebrating with the show's first-ever use of the phrase "stinking scallywag."

So, you know, basically the same thing.

If you've been paying attention, you've probably already figured out that I'm a pretty big fan of the Power Rangers, and with that love comes a whole lot of questions about how that show works. This week, with Power Rangers Dino Charge returning to Saturday afternoons on Nickelodeon, I had the chance to talk to two members of the current cast to finally get my answers: Brennan Mejia, who plays Tyler, the Red Ranger, and Camille Hyde, who plays Shelby, the Pink Ranger. Over the course of the interview, Mejia and Hyde talk to us about interacting with fans, their subtle tributes to Japan's Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, and --- in what I can assure you is something you're going to want to read --- the truly amazing audition process for becoming a Power Ranger.
