Comic-Con International has announced the nominees for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards -- popularly known as the Oscars of comics -- to be given out this year during the mighty San Diego convention. Categories range from Best Single Issue to Best Inker to Best Publication Design, and coming in with the most nominations of all is Marvel Comics' Daredevil. Written by Mark Waid and drawn by Marcos Martin and Paolo Rivera & Joe Rivera, this most acclaimed superhero series earned six nominations in categories including Best Cover Artist, Best Penciller/Inker Team and Best Writer. Ramón Pérez's gorgeous Tale of Sand, a graphic novel published by Archaia and based on an unproduced screenplay by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl. Tale of Sand is nominated for five Eisners including Best Graphic Album-New, Best Penciller/Inker and Best Coloring.Sadly, your ComicsAlliance editors were not nominated for the first time in three years. While we do anticipate palpable outrage, disgust and protest (#OccupyEisners), we hope our readers will join us in congratulating our colleagues in the press.

The 2012 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony will be held at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Friday, July 13.
