It's officially official, everyone. The Guardians of the Galaxy will star in Telltale Games' next new episodic adventure game. Announced with a brief teaser trailer at The Game Awards, the footage confirmed rumors that we heard not that long ago about Telltale's plans with Marvel.

Though the teaser is certainly short, it does at least offer some idea of what to expect from the upcoming game. Most notably, another dope soundtrack, and potentially hints that the game will be set in the movie universe rather than the comic continuity.

Setting a game within the cinematic universe makes more sense than trying to jam a new story into the comic continuity, given that the MCU has a lot more leeway with what adventures the Guardians of the Galaxy can embark on. Plus, there's all that time between the two movies to account for, and Telltale has certainly shown it's up to the task of neatly filling in the gaps of licensed properties before with games like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.

Given the logo stylings and focus on the mix tape and Sony Walkman in the trailer, it's hard to see this game going in a different direction entirely, but we'll likely learn more about what to expect some time early next year. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2 is due out in May, so Telltale only has a few months to start setting the stage.

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series will be out in 2017, and you can read more about it on Telltale's official site.
