In the world of superhero comics, we're most certainly no strangers to so-called "good guys" going bad, but at long last, even we have to wonder: Is no one immune to the siren call of supervillainy?! Is there no one so wholly devote to the cause of good that evil cannot sink its cruel talons into their soul?! Can any wholesome cuteness triumph over the wicked inclinations of life as an arch-criminal?!

It seems it cannot, because now, Hello Kitty has become a supervillain. Or at least, she's dressing like one in the latest licensing collaboration between Sanrio and DC Comics, which features everyone's favorite icon of cuteness cosplaying as a trio of Batman villainesses.

Revealed by Sanrio and Warner Bros. this week, Kitty's turn as a supervillain is really just an extension of the pre-existing Hello Kitty/DC Comics partnership that was unveiled last year. Unlike that line, however, which featured Kitty as Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Woman, this one is tightly focused on the Batman franchise, with Kitty as Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Obviously, Batman's villains are some of the most prominent at DC comics, but it does make me wonder if they're planning on expanding the merchandising line into some deeper cuts from across the universe, like, say, The Cheetah. I mean, it might be weird to see Hello Kitty wearing the skin of another feline, but I've got one doll where she's dressed as Badtz Maru that looks for all the world like she skinned her friend and is wearing him as a hoodie. Sanrio makes some weird products.

While not quite as exciting as the Hello Kitty x New Japan Pro Wrestling partnership, we'll definitely be keeping an eye out to see what sort of merchandise comes out of this line.
