What You Might Have Missed In DC’s June 2017 Solicitations

DC Comics
DC Comics

Every month, comic publishers release their solicitation announcements to provide information to readers and retailers on comics that are coming out in three months’ time, but there’s so much information dropped at once that a lot can slip through the cracks.

This month in DC's June solicitations, DC Rebirth brings back some more old favorites in a more traditional setting, some New 52 standout stars get a chance to return, some Golden Age heroes appear in the least likely place, and Aquaman gets hot!

Azrael Returns In ‘Detective Comics’ #950 [Preview]

Detective Comics #

Say what you will about his ill-fated tenure as Batman, but Jean-Paul Valley always finds his way back into continuity somehow. It was only a few years ago that the original Azrael --- well, the original comic book Azrael, anyway, not the Angel of Death with four heads and a thousand wings whose body is made of billions of eyes and tongues --- returned to the page in Batman and Robin Eternal. And in February, he's making a pretty grand return in the flagship title of DC's Rebirth Era as Detective Comics hits its milestone 950th issue.

Kate And Renee Are Reunited In ‘Detective Comics’ #936 [Preview]

Detective Comics #936

With only two issues out already, Detective Comics has already become the standout title of DC's Rebirth line. The focus on the Batman family has not only put together a team of characters that I don't think we've ever seen together, but it's opening up the door for some bold new relationships --- and the return of a few that we haven't seen in a while.

And when the third issue hits next week, that's exactly what we're getting. As Batman is brutally attacked by the seemingly unstoppable soldiers of the Colony, Batwoman is questioning her pace in training the next generation of Gotham City's vigilantes --- and she talks through her problems in a visit from Renee Montoya. Check out a preview!

Get to Know Booster Gold Ahead of DC’s ‘Convergence’ Event

CONV_BOOSTER_feat

Created by Dan Jurgens in his self-titled series in 1986, Booster Gold is one of the most quintessentially 80s superheroes, dressed in garish gold, and obsessed with his own image and celebrity. He came from the future, but he belongs to the MTV generation. And as a time-traveler himself, he has a typically convoluted backstory involving a dead sister, alternate versions of himself, and the usual confusion of crises.

That backstory is only going to get more complicated when Booster Gold is thrown into the mix of DC's Convergence event. Thankfully DC has decided to help readers out with a two-page guide to Booster's backstory, which they've asked us to share exclusively with you.

DC’s Fourth Round Of ‘Convergence’ Minis Turns The Clock Way Back With Doc Shaner On ‘Shazam!’ And Much More

Convergence Week Four

A more appropriate name for DC Comics' Convergence event, at least the miniseries that will accompany the main series for two months next spring, may be "Nostalgia Trip."

DC has been rolling out titles and creative teams for the 40 planned series week by week. The first batch focused on the publisher's pre-New 52 continuity. The second focused on the 1990s (including WildStorm), and the third seemed to center on the 1980s.

The fourth and final group of miniseries, which DC announced Tuesday, covers a much wider time period: All of DC's pre-Crisis On Infinite Earths continuity. And there's another twist: They all take place on defined and listed alternate Earths which existed before the company's last line-wide reboot in the 1980s.
