Northwest Press Protests iBooks Ban With 'Apple Version'
Northwest Press, known for its commitment to publishing LGBTQ comic books, has a long history of fighting Apple to get its books out to readers digitally through the iBooks store. The publisher's most recent release, Hard To Swallow, was recently rejected due to sexual content, so in response the publisher has made the comic free to download --- but with all the naughty bits covered up with pictures of apples.

Apple Rejects 'Southern Bastards' #10, Likely Over Sex Scene
Apple has rejected issue #10 of Jason Aaron and Jason Latour's Image Comics series Southern Bastards from its store, and odds are it isn't because of Latour's widely shared essay about the Confederate flag in its back matter. The likely reason is an explicit sex scene that opens the issue. In virtually every previous case of Apple rejecting specific issues of comics, it's been over sexual content, not language or violence. (The one possible exception is the Johnny Ryan library of comics. It's hard to know where the offense was there.)

Superman And Bizarro Team Up For Interactive iPad Storybook
Superman and Batman played a huge role when I was learning to read back in the mid-1980s. Not only did I have plenty of storybooks and comics featuring the two, but I also had read-along books and records (yes, records) that I listened to on a nearly daily basis. It looks like the kids of 2014 are going to have the opportunity to experience an updated version of that with a new interactive storybook from Livo Books, Superman and Bizarro Save the Planet. It's available through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

ComiXology Nabs No. 1 Non-Game Spot In iTunes Top-Grossing iPad Apps List
Let's be real for a second: A list of the top-grossing apps in the iTunes store isn't going to be all that fair. Your assorted Candy Crushes, casino games, and Simpsons Tapped Outs -- games designed to basically pick players up by their ankles and shake the change out of their pockets--are going to skew the results. That makes it all the more of an achievement that ComiXology nabbed the No. 11 spo

Ever finished a video game and then immediately wanted to read a comic about that game -- not just the one you bought, but the one you played, with all the choices you made? Way back in 2009, Apple developers apparently wanted the same thing, filing for a patent on a technology that would do just that...

The statement was affirmed by Image in various communiqués in the press and social media. But V...

ComiXology Named #3 iPad App Earner for 2012 by Apple
