There's nothing wrong with being a property that was designed to sell toys in the 1980s. Plenty of today's beloved properties started out that way, especially the ones being published by IDW. But MASK: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand has always felt almost comically toyetic to me: Good and evil teams who wear special helmets that give them powers and ride in vehicles that transform into other vehicles. However, as we see in this preview from MASK #4, writer Brandon Easton and artist Tony Vargas have found the key to rising above that problem and making their characters feel like people: family melodrama.

Over the past few years, Kickstarter has become a great place to find (and fund) some pretty great indie comics. There's just one big problem: If you don't hear about something while it's being funded, then there's a good chance you've missed your shot on not just helping to get a good comic out there, but getting a copy of your own. That's why I'm happy to find out about Enforcer: Tough Luck, the new comic from Brian Funk, Artyom Trakhanov, Ryan Cody and Thomas Mauer. There are only a few days left in the Kickstarter campaign set to fund the first of five issues, but it's well worth your time to check it out. It's a story of mobsters and magic, and it's got some truly fantastic art.

A great comic book cover is an advertisement, a work of art, a statement, and an invitation. A great comic book cover is a glimpse of another world through a canvas no bigger than a window pane. In Best Comic Book Covers Ever (This Month), we look back over some of the most eye-catching, original and exceptional covers of the past month. 2015 got off to an impressive start with stunning compositions from Riley Rossmo, James Harren, and Ken Niimura; wonderful character portraits from Marko Djurdjevic, Becky Cloonan, and Kaare Andrews; amazing colors from Darwyn Cooke and Artyom Trakhanov; and a really fun He-Man piece from Stjepan Sejic.

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, as well as the special qualities of comic book storytelling, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great pinups, fan art and other illustrations on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, awnd some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it is awesome.
