Adventure Time #10, "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-Time," by Ryan North, Shelli Paroline, and Braden Lamb, puts you in charge of Finn and Jake as they try to overcome a dastardly spell, by picking their actions, from punches to toots.
Boom Studios had an impressive 2015, thanks to a stong roster of new titles by exceptionally talented creators --- with standouts that include Welcome Back, The Fiction, Cognetic, Curb Stomp, Diesel, The Spire, Wild's End, and... well, you get the picture. It was a good year.
Tthat must come as a relief to the publisher, because this was also Boom's tenth year in the business, and that put those folks in a partying mood. One notable way they marked the anniversary was with special variant covers that celebrated both their books and the artists working on them. As the clock ticks down on 2015, we've collected the covers together in one gallery for you to enjoy.
Spinning out of Madéleine Flores' charming, adorable, and funny webcomic about a powerful warrior who protects her village from all kinds of threats, Help Us! Great Warrior #1 hits stands next week from Boom's all-ages line, Boom Box. Fans of the webcomic will find more of the comic they know and love, quite literally -- more hilarity, longer stories, more color, and more battles.
In this exclusive preview Great Warrior faces off against an enemy as old as time, and that enemy is... not having time to shower before going to work. She also faces off against an actual enemy with her requisite humor and toughness. Plus, check out the variant covers by Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb, and MAiS2.
After almost three years, the Adventure Time tenure of Ryan North as writer alongside artists Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb will come to a close with the release of issue #35 next week. Based on the Pendleton Ward animated series about a boy and his dog at the end of the world and the beginning of fun that never ends, North and co.'s run has included multiple awards including an Eisner for Best Publication For Kids, and is regarded by fans and professionals as one of the best, most consistently entertaining comics in the American market.
For this end of an era, we join the gang as they encounter the worst thing to ever happen to anyone in the entire history of time.
Ryan North, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb's run on the Adventure Time comic is barreling headlong toward its conclusion, and it looks like before they're done, they're participating in the time-honored tradition of taking a look at a future where Everything Has Gone Horribly Wrong! You know, like Days of Future Past or that Batman story where Batman's kid wears a trenchcoat and has a cat. It's a tradition, y'all, but in Finn's case, he at least gets a pretty sweet beard out of the deal.
Of all the sentences I've read in comics news this week, none have been as much of an emotional rollercoaster as this one: Ryan North is leaving the Adventure Time comic, and will be replaced as writer by Christopher Hastings.
The announcement comes after almost three years of North's tenure as writer alongside artists Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb, which included multiple awards for the series including an Eisner for Best Publication For Kids, and was revealed when the solicitations for January's issue were released, announcing the new team of Hastings, the creator of The Adventures of Dr. McNinja, and artist Zachary Sterling, who previously worked on Boom!'s line of Adventure Time original graphic novels.
It's really starting to look like 2014 is the year of the giant, oversized offbeat anthology comic. Not only have we gotten books like Cosmic Scoundrels and Giant-Size Kung Fu Bible Stories, but today, Boom! Studios announced the latest offering from their creator-owned imprint, the Boom! Box 2014 Mix Tape, and it already looks amazing.
Clocking in at an oversized 8.5 x 11", the Mix Tape is set to include a pretty impressive roster, including covers by Teen Dog creator Jake Lawrence and a new Lumberjanes story written and drawn by Noelle Stevenson, and a new story from the award-winning team behind Adventure Time, Ryan North, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb. And if that wasn't enough, we have an exclusive look at character designs for four short stories by Rian Sygh, including Teen Prez, which may actually be the Sensational Character Find of 2014.
One of the great thing about the Adventure Time comics -- and there are a lot of great things about the Adventure Time comics -- is how great they are for telling stories with the familiar Cartoon Network characters that you could only really tell in comics. The best example might have been the fantastic Choose-Your-Own-Adventure issue, but next week, writer Ryan North and artists Kat Philbin, Missy Pena, Becca Tobin, Liz Prince, Carey Pietsch, Jesse Tise, Ian McGinty, T. Zysk, David Cutler, Yumi Sakugawa, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb (phew) are doing it again with a special issue that's all about the cast making their own zines.
That's right, everyone: If you've ever wanted to know what a zine would look like if it was made by BMO, now is your chance to find out. It's about a bear named Cool Bear, and it is amazing.
On February 19, Boom! Studios will celebrate two years of Adventure Time comics as the ongoing series' 25th issue arrives in stores. It's a milestone for Boom!, and especially writer Ryan North and the art team of Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb, who have been working together consecutively for the full run aside from issue #5 (which was drawn by Mike Holmes -- but hey, Paroline and Lamb needed a second to get married). To commemorate the release of Adventure Time #25, ComicsAlliance got in touch with its Eisner Award-winning art team for insights into their collaborative process and the secret to their ongoing success.
Earlier this week we brought you the teaser hinting at Ryan North, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb's new series from BOOM! Studios, and if you were wondering how long you'd have to wait to find out what it was, wonder no longer. Today, we know that the team behind the award-winning Adventure Time comic will soon be bringing you dinosaurs in spacesuits in the pages of Midas Flesh, a sci-fi comic about what would happen if King Midas's golden touch was a weapon of planetary destruction.
The book is the first project from BOOM! Box, a new imprint inspired by the largely webcomics talent the publisher recruited to staff its popular and acclaimed line of animation-based KaBOOM! comics including Adventure Time, Bravest Warriors and Regular Show. BOOM! Box is meant to be distinct from the existing BOOM! and KaBOOM! lines in that it will be fully original projects (as opposed to licensed) with no restrictions on format.
To find out more about Midas Flesh, we spoke to North about his inspiration for the comic, his process, why Paul Dini deserves a solid gold rocket car and, oddly enough, his favorite fetish videos on YouTube. Read on to find out!
