Ridley And Jeanty Reunite For 'The American Way' Sequel
Ten years ago, screenwriter and novelist John Ridley teamed with artist Georges Jeanty for The American Way, a miniseries published through Wildstorm that presented an alternate history where a black superhero in the 1960s joined America's greatest superteam. In the time since, Ridley has won an Academy Award for 12 Years A Slave, among many other writing accomplishments --- but he is returning to comic books and reuniting with Jeanty for a sequel to The American Way set amid the political turmoil of the '70s.

The Issue: Imperfect Harmony in 'Buffy Season Eight' #21
Welcome to The Issue, where we'll take a look at some of the strangest, most interesting and most distinctive single issue comic stories ever to grace the medium. You know the ones; silent issues, sideways issues, backwards issues; the comics that try to do something different with the form, and stand out from the series they belong to. Buffy Harmony Cover In the last installment, we talked about issue #12 of The Invisibles, a comic that takes a sympathetic look at one of the series' throwaway baddies. This time round, it's 'Harmonic Divergence', issue #21 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, written by Jane Espenson and drawn by Georges Jeanty. It's a comic that takes a very different approach to a similar idea and, as Hallowe'en is nearly upon us, throws in some spooky Draculas too.

Best Sequential Art Ever (This Week)
The comic book, animation, illustration, pinup, mashup, fan art and design communities are generating amazing artwork of myriad styles and tastes, all of which ends up on the Internet and filtered into ComicsAlliance’s Best Art Ever (This Week). These images convey senses of mood and character — not to mention artistic skill — but comic books are specifically a medium of sequential narratives, and great sequential art has to be both beautiful (totally subjective!) and clear in its storytelling (not so subjective!). The words and the pictures need to work together to tell the story and create whatever tone, emotion and indeed world the story requires. The contributions of every person on a creative team, from the writer to the artist(s) to the letterers, are necessary to achieving a great page of sequential storytelling. It is the special nature of comic books that we’re celebrating in this recurring feature: Best Sequential Art Ever (This Week).

Joss Whedon's Brother Zack To Write 'Serenity' Comic
Buffy the Vampire Slayer came back as a comic, so why not Firefly? Dark Horse Comics must have wondered the same thing, because that's exactly what's happening. The first issue of Serenity: Leaves on the Wind is set for release January 29. It'll be written by Zack Whedon, brother of Joss Whedon and an accomplished screenwriter in his own right, and art will be by Georges Jeanty, who Whedonites wi

Buffy The Vampire Slayer #40: The End of Season 8 Is Here [Review]
It's now January 2011, almost nineteen years since the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that got the franchise off to a rough start and almost fourteen since the beginning of the television series that eventually got it all right. Now Season 8 of the life-after-TV-show Buffy comic book wraps up this week, a book that has had its ups and downs, its moments of brilliance and its confused stumbles, bu

Will Death Come Knocking for Dawn in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ #38?
As "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon ramps up his run on Dark Horse's comic book conclusion to season 8, it's become increasingly clear that even the book's most popular characters aren't necessarily guaranteed a happy ending. With November's issue #38 approaching, fans are left to ponder Jo Chen's latest cover teasing what could very well be the end of the road for Buffy's

Yeah, I really just wrote "3-B" in a headline. You would too if Dark Horse Comics shot you an exclusive (with the exception of Georges Jeanty's "Buffy" variant) first look at its most prominent titles beginning with the letter "B" out this October...
