The 10 Best Marvel Movie Casting Decisions (So Far)

Untitled-2

The news that Paul Rudd will play Hank Pym in the 2015 Ant-Man movie is the latest piece of inspired casting from Marvel Studios. Rudd will bring charm, humor and an appealing eye-twinkle to what may prove to be Marvel's most comedic movie under writer Joe Cornish and writer-director Edgar Wright.

Marvel characters have found tremendous success on the big screen, both in Marvel's own "in-house" movies such as the Avengers line and in those produced by other studios, such as the Wolverine/X-Men films. Bringing an established character to the screen is an unusual challenge because readers have a strong idea of what they want to see, and actors want to bring something new to the role. ComicsAlliance offers its view on the performers who pulled this off best.

X-Men "Days of Future Past" poster -- exclusive EW.com image

This weekend's X-Men: Days of Future Past panel at Comic-Con featured four actors who play two mutants: Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy, who have portrayed Professor Charles Xavier in four combined films, and Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender, two actors who've starred as the mutant revolutionary Magneto. Following that, in a clever bit of advertising, 20th Century Fox has released the first two promotional posters for the upcoming X-Men: First Class sequel, with one being a split image of Stewart and McAvoy's respective Xaviers, and the other showcasing McKellen and Fassbender. You can check them both out below.

Matt Wilson: They couldn't be more divided, Chris! How will they unite in the next hour? I'm in such suspen

In our latest series of super-hero movie reviews, we take on the films chosen by you, the readers: X-Men!

Chris Sims: I was convinced that the Punisher franchise or Jean-Claude Van Damme's Street Fighter was going to win, but when we let our readers vote on which film series would be the next subject of ComicsAlliance's in-depth review series, the response was overwhelming: The X-Men won in a landslide victory with 56% of the vote -- presumably because our readers wanted to subject us to the ultimate horror that is X-Men 3: The Last Stand.
