Paul Pope, born September 25, 1970, is one of the world’s most exciting cartoonists. With an incredibly distinctive style that is reminiscent both of old Jack Kirby comics and the glam music style of the '70s, Pope tells futuristic stories with characters that rebel against the status quo.

Actor/writer Jason Mantzoukas has been tapped to write the screenplay for a Paramount/Plan B motion picture based on Battling Boy, the 2013 graphic novel by Paul Pope. You may best know Mantzoukas as an actor from The League, or his recurring roles on shows like Parks and Recreation and Transparent, or as a podcaster on How Did This Get Made? As a writer his credits include a couple of episodes of The League, as well as several episodes of Children's Hospital and, fascinatingly, the Ice Cube/Kevin Hart vehicle Ride Along (but not its upcoming sequel).

Over the last several years, Vertigo has revived several forgotten anthology titles with good results: Strange Adventures, Mystery in Space, The Witching Hour and Time Warp. With Strange Sports Stories, Vertigo once again dips into comics history, drafting a lineup of heavy hitters and utility players for odd tales of sports and science fiction coming together in unexpected ways.

Nine Comic Books About Jim Gordon And Gotham City Police
This week marks the premiere of Gotham, the new Fox television show focusing on Jim Gordon's first year as a cop in Batman's hometown, and the origins of young Bruce Wayne and the people who will one day become the greatest enemies of his war on crime. That the show exists at all is a testament to how strong Jim Gordon and the rest of the Gotham city Police Department are as heroes in their own rights. So if Gotham has you in the mood to read about Gordon, Harvey Bullock and the rest of the GCPD -- or if you just want to dive into some solid Batman comics where the spotlight isn't entirely on the Dark Knight -- then I've got some suggestions for great comics about Gotham's top cops!
