It might seem hard to believe, but there was once a time when Archie Comics was the only publisher that didn't do variant covers. If memory serves --- and I might be wrong about this --- it took until 2010 for them to do their first one ever on Jughead #200. Now, though, with the high profile relaunches that we've seen over the past year, it looks like they're making up for lost time.
When Betty & Veronica #1 hits shelves on July 20, it's coming with twenty-five different covers, including covers from Colleen Coover, Bilquis Evely, Chip Zdarsky, Veronica Fish and many more. Check out the entire roster!
A lot of people fell in love with Rocket Raccoon this summer thanks to the movie Guardians of the Galaxy, so this seems like a great time to pick up some art featuring the movie's angry anthropomorphic star -- and to help out his co-creator Bill Mantlo at the same time.
Mantlo was severely injured when he was hit by a car in 1992, and has needed constant and costly care ever since. The prominence of Rocket Raccoon in Guardians brought welcome attention to Mantlo's condition, and comic artists have stepped up -- in conjunction with Multiversity Comics -- to help fund his care with online auctions of original art featuring Rocket and other Mantlo creations (yes, including ROM Spaceknight). All proceeds will go to the Mantlo family.
We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, as well as the special qualities of comic book storytelling, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great pinups, fan art and other illustrations on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, awnd some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it is awesome.
Here at ComicsAlliance, we obviously have a vested interest in seeing comics bloggers do well with their various projects. That said, it's a lot easier to get behind stuff when it looks like it's going to be amazing, which is why we're all pretty excited about Kelly Thompson'sStorykiller and the roster of incredible artists she's gathered to illustrate the special edition of her new novel.
As you might imagine from the title, Storykiller follows the adventures of a young woman named Tess Battle, who possesses both a giant black battleaxe and the ability to kill fictional characters, and it's set to be illustrated by CA favorites like Ross Campbell, Ming Doyle, Declan Shalvey and more. Check out the video and the full roster below!
Earning major points for her superlative work on WildStorm's in-progress DV8: Gods and Monsters miniseries with Brian Wood, Rebekeh Isaacs has already begun drawing her followup project that's similarly close to the artist's heart...
Last Wednesday, Wildstorm relaunched the off-beat "DV8," a series with an eccentric cast of superpowered youths, most of whom possessed a healthy amount of disrespect for authority. The team originally spun out of the "Gen13" work of Jim Lee, Brandon Choi and J...
