It doesn't happen often, but I always appreciate those rare stories where Batman leaves Gotham City and makes his way to the American South. It's one of the reasons that Justice League of America #200 will always hold a special place in my heart, because he doesn't just go to the south, he goes to the swamps of my home state of South Carolina --- which look an awful lot like the ones I used to drive through on my way to the comic book store.

All of which is to say that I was ready to love All Star Batman #8, by Scott Snyder and Giuseppe Camuncoli, before I even saw the first page --- and then it got better. No, Batman doesn't head to the Carolinas to settle the mustard-based vs. vinegar-based barbecue debate once and for all, but he does head to the Mississippi Delta on the trail of a crime, and then ends up clocking someone in the friggin' face with a robot flamingo, and then delivers one of the best Batman Family lines of all time.
