‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Goes Full ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ in New Trailer

If Arrow bore an unabashed influence from Batman Begins, and early Flash borrowed a bit from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow isn’t even trying to conceal its Guardians of the Galaxy vibe. Get weird in the ‘70s, as the team brawls to some vintage tunes in the latest Legends trailer of our January premiere.

Following the full round of pilot photos, our latest look at Legends of Tomorrow plays up the humor of the series, particularly as it pertains to one of the DC heroes’ early stops in the 1970s. In addition to an inescapably “Awesome Mix” soundtrack, the newest spot even borrows the cheeky “You’re Welcome” tease from Marvel’s galactic misfits, tweaking it to a timey-wimey “You Can Thank Us Later.”

Lest we forget, there’s also the ragtag-arguments in an industrial-seeming space timeship, a leading hero in a long trenchcoat, a deadly assassin with a penchant for blades, and Dominic Purcell’s Heat Wave as a dead ringer for the team’s Drax.

So reads the official Legends of Tomorrow description:

When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

Set for 15 episodes (to start), thus far we know Legends of Tomorrow will include among its cast Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh), Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), Caity Lotz, time-traveler Rip Hunter (Doctor Who alum Arthur Darvill), Valentina Vostok (Stephanie Corneliussen) and DC big bad Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).

Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on January 21, but will the spinoff series share the success of its obvious influence?
