Archie Comics To Debut Four New One-Shots This March
Archie Comics used to be defined by its rigid commitment to nostalgia and the familiar, but over the past few years the publisher has proved to be more than willing to shake it up and adapt their iconic characters across a variety of genres and concepts. Next year, Archie will publish four one-shots by a wide array of creators across a number of different genres, showcasing just how versatile it core cast of characters can be.

Hey! Ho! Let's Go To Riverdale In 'Archie Meets Ramones' #1
All things considered, Archie Andrews has met an awful lot of famous people. Michael Strahan, Barack Obama, KISS, the Sharknado, they've all made a stop in Riverdale at one time or another. But with Archie Meets Ramones, there's a bit of a problem that's kind of hard to get past. I mean, I don't want to get too dark when I'm talking about a book that's ostensibly for kids --- albeit that small but amazing segment of kids that are into both Archie Comics and '70s punk rock --- but if you want the gang to hang out with the band's original lineup here in 2016, it's going to be a little difficult. Unless, of course, you have a magic record from Sabrina the Teenage Witch's surprisingly vast vinyl archives. If that's that's the case, then it's as easy as dropping the needle. Interviews, panel appearances, fan mail -- artists and writers understandably get much of the focus when we talk about professionals in the American comics industry. But beyond the front lines there's a whole host of people working hard to keep the business running: accountants, lawyers, publicists, librarians, production staff and many others. Most of these people don't have the opportunity to talk about their work with the people who read the comics they help put in their hands, but the work they do is important -- often integral -- to this industry. Whether it's making sure creators get paid, designing logos, or even planning a convention, these people affect how the whole package of our industry comes together. In the first of what we've planned as a series of spotlights on the behind-the-scenes comics pros, we're speaking with Alex Segura, Archie Comics' Senior Vice President - Publicity and Marketing. Segura started his career in comics as a journalist but has spent nearly a decade doing publicity at DC Comics and Archie, the latter of which has been especially praised by this site and others for revitalizing its brand. One of the architects of the new Archie Comics, Segura sat down with us to talk about how he ended up as a publicist and what exactly that job entails.

A Modest And Belated Birthday Tribute To Archie Goodwin
While his name isn't hugely well-known outside fan circles, the late Archie Goodwin played a huge role in the world of comics for over four decades. Born on September 8th, 1937, he started out writing stories for Warren Publishing in the early '60s before moving on to key editorial roles first at Marvel and then at DC. His good humor and kindness provided an inspiration to generations of fans and creators, and his influence is felt to this day – and in that spirit, a trio of our favorite creators reached out to offer tributes to the man and his legacy:

Archie's Superhero Line Gets A 'Dark Circle' Relaunch
Archie Comics has developed a reputation for doing the unexpected and somehow pulling it off. The wholesome publisher pipped Marvel and DC to the lead in launching an ongoing book with a gay teen protagonist in Kevin Keller; it broke with the conventions of comic book continuity with its attention-grabbing Archie Marries... books; and it successfully brought zombies to Riverdale with its critically and commercially successful Afterlife With Archie books, potentially kicking off a new line of horror books. So it feels in keeping with that spirit that Archie Comics announced yesterday that it plans to relaunch its cheery (and under-exposed) Red Circle superhero line as 'Dark Circle,' a line of adult-oriented series with the sophisticated narrative ambitions of HBO or Showtime. It's certainly unexpected. Can Archie Comics pull it off?
