DC Relaunches ‘Klarion’ And Goes Outside The Box With Genevieve Valentine & Garry Brown On ‘Catwoman’

Klarion by Trevor McCarthy (left) and Catwoman by Garry Brown (right)

The Comic-Con 2014 season of big announcements is definitely upon us, and today, DC Comics has two that are very interesting. The first is that Catwoman is getting a new creative team in the form of novelist Genevieve Valentine and Five Ghosts artist Garry Brown, tying into the big shakeups coming to Gotham from the pages of Batman Eternal.

As for the previous writer of Catwoman, Ann Nocenti, she'll be joined by artist Trevor McCarthy (Batwoman, Nightwing) in a new title, relaunching Jack Kirby's Klarion the Witch Boy for the New 52, with a focus on using magic as a metaphor for technology.

‘Edge Of Spider-Verse’ Solicits Tease Spider-Man Noir And Two New Spider-Types

Untitled-2

One of the things I love most about Spider-Man (and let me tell you, there's a lot I love about Spider-Man) is how adaptable the character is to different situations, settings, and even different characters taking on the role.

Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and an assembled team of writers and artists are picking up that ball and running with it in the upcoming "Spider-Verse" event, and they're getting a little bit of a head start with what they're calling "Edge of Spider-Verse," a series of one-issue stories that introduce readers to the various iterations of Spider Men and Women. Marvel has released solicitations for the first three issues of the five-issue series, which feature Spider-Man Noir, a new spin on Spider-Woman, and a futuristic Spider-Man who wears a helmet (and who probably isn't from 2099).

Fabian Gray’s Adventures Continue In ‘Five Ghosts’ #6 [Preview]

Five Ghosts

When it was announced in August that Five Ghosts -- from creators Frank Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham -- was becoming an ongoing, it came as welcome news to readers, but probably shouldn't have been much of a surprise. The story of Fabian Gray, an adventurer possessed by the spirits of five literary ghosts -- Merlin, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Miyamoto Musashi, and Dracula -- Five Ghosts is a throwback pulp story, if you will, and one that we've been on board with from the beginning.

Originally intended to be a five issue miniseries, issue six of the title, featuring guest artist Garry Brown, arrives in stores next. A stand-alone tale, the issue sees Fabian travel to Japan to aid an ally in the search for the mythical sword Masamune. Image Comics has provided us with a six page preview of the story, which you can view below.

Saturday afternoon's Marvel panel was billed as an Inhumanity panel, but most of the announcements were for new Marvel solo books, and there was almost – almost – news about the future of the Ultimate Universe. But not quite.
