We, as a culture, send a lot of mixed messages about making wishes. It's something that we're supposed to do basically all the time --- Blowing out your birthday candles? Make a wish! Lose an eyelash? Make a wish! Look at the clock at the right time? Make a wish! See a shooting star? Oh you best believe you better be asking the nebulous and unknowable forces of the universe for some money, because it's wishin' time. And yet, even with all of that, the world is full of stories where every time someone makes a wish, it goes horribly, horribly wrong. But maybe Lovern Kindzierski and John Bolton's Shame can change all that with its fairy tale style opening about a kindly old witch who makes a wish for a child of her own, and... oh wait, it says here that she awakens dark forces and ends up giving birth to the most evil woman in the world. Ah well. Check out a preview!

In the process of writing my article about muscles vs curves, and how the big dudes of superhero comics typically fail to represent the tastes of most androphile women, I gathered a collection of images and recommended artists from my correspondents that illustrate the sort of art they'd love to see more of -- but which there's sadly very little of compared to all the T&A fan-service targeted at straight men. I had far too many recommendations to put in the article, so I've compiled the collection (and a few personal favorites) into a very special one-off post. The collection includes pin-ups, fan art, sketches, and some traditional superhero art from artists who aren't afraid to put a little male eye candy in their work!

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, as well as the special qualities of comic book storytelling, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great pinups, fan art and other illustrations on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art E

On sale this week is a new edition of The Books of Magic, collected in hardcover for the very first time, over twenty years after it first appeared. Written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by four of the most refined artists of the era, it's a book that seems to have been a little forgotten in recent years...
