CBS' Supergirl adaptation proved to be one of the highlights of the past year's season of television, packed with action, drama, excitement and a whole lot of heart. One of the best things about the show was that in a time where so many superhero adaptations are grim morality plays that pit friend against friend, Supergirl was a bright ray of sunshine that focused on the power of teamwork and the hidden strength in us all. Last night saw the final episode of Supergirl's first season, and if you're still reeling and can't for season two, we've assembled a list of five of the best independent comics for you to try next that are fun, strong and powerful, just like Supergirl.

'Mad Max: Fury Road' Hero Furiosa Inspires Artists
Within hours of Mad Max: Fury Road hitting theaters, Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram exploded with fan art featuring the neon wasteland desert and its high octane inhabitants. One character, though, inspired artists like no other --- Imperator Furiosa, the steely warrior of Immortan Joe's army. ComicsAlliance has compiled a collection of our favorites, including a brand-new piece by the talented Greg Ruth, and an exquisite black and white sketch by Jamie McKelvie.

Maihack's Supergirl & Batgirl (and Guest) Say Merry Christmas
I'm going to go out on a festively decorated limb here and guess that you are, of course, already familiar with Mike Maihack's fantastic and adorable Batgirl/Supergirl strips. He's been doing them for a few years now, chronicling the perky, cheerful Kryptonian heroine, the slightly grumpier Gotham City vigilante, and their continuing adventures as best friends. They're all pretty great, but my favorites by far are the annual Christmas specials. This year, though, they're even more special than usual, as Batgirl and Supergirl are joined by a special guest star for an evening of caroling in exchange for candy. It's a Christmas Miracle!

All of it is awesome.

Supergirl Loves Batgirl's New Costume In Maihack Comic Strip
Ever since it first started, Mike Maihack's Batgirl/Supergirl has been ComicsAlliance's favorite take on those two characters, probably ever. The strips are unfailingly charming and delightful, and the clash between Batgirl's understandable grumpiness and Supergirl's relentless cheer makes for some classic comedy. Now, though, we're all getting pretty excited about the official version of Batgirl, with the announcement of Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr's impending takeover of the book with an amazing new costume, it looks like there might be a rival for our Batgirl-related affections coming up soon. But, as Maihack has proven in his latest strip, there's nobody more excited about Batgirl's new costume than her best friend Kara.

It's always nice to have a good news day in comics -- and DC probably agrees after the rapturous reception to yesterday's announcement of the new direction for Batgirl from the new creative team of Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, Jordie Bellaire, and new discovery Babs Tarr (who we've been telling you about for aaages). Judging by all the Batgirl fan-art produced since yesterday's announcement, we feel sure there's a big appetite out there for a Batgirl comic deliberately designed to appeal to a female and family audience -- and for Batgirl's smartly designed and stylish new costume. With credit to Batgirl fan ComixBookGurl for her Twitter call-to-action, we collected all the new Batgirl fan art we could find in order to celebrate what may be the best Batgirl... ever?

You're reading this on the Internet, so there's a good chance that you're already familiar with Mike Maihack, whose super cute, super fun Supergirl/Batgirl fan comics pretty much take over whenever he draws a new one. I've been a fan of those for a long time, and ever since I saw the first one, I've been wondering whether he was going to turn his attention to a full-length story with a similar aes
