Over the past few years, Mondo has put on some pretty amazing showcases of pop-culture inspired art at their gallery in Austin, Texas, complete with limited prints featuring some of our favorite characters, and it looks like they'll be back at it again next month. On May 22, they're kicking off "Pulp Menagerie," a gallery show featuring the art of Tom Whalen, featuring some truly fantastic posters based on Godzilla, Batman, and Mad Monster Party.
It's not often, but every now and then have to look at things that aren't covered by pictures of Batman, and this is clearly the biggest problem in my life. Fortunately, Mondo is taking steps to minimize this problem in the best way possible.
Here at ComicsAlliance, we've been excited about this ever since it was announced a few months back, but on October 24, they're kicking off their gallery show in Austin celebrating the Dark Knight's 75th anniversary. There are some some truly incredible portraits, continuing a long year of great comics and pop-culture inspired art that's included stuff like the Batman: The Animated Series and Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks. We've seen a sample of what they have to offer, and they are beautiful. Check 'em out below!
Each weekday, ComicsAlliance brings you a carefully selected variety of links from around the web about comics and comics-related media, including movies, video games, toys, and whatever else might be worth noting. We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great images on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, and some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it’s awesome.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas, is on a mission to bring style back to the neglected art of movie posters. It's like the Shadow's network of undercover operatives, only instead of mystical powers and intimidation, I operate with jokes about the KGBeast...
