'Spider-Women Alpha' #1 Kicks Off A Spider-Woman Crossover
The three Spider-Women who all somehow have solo titles right now are having their inevitable crossover, and it all starts in Spider-Women Alpha #1. This book leads into an eight-part crossover between Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen, and Silk. The crossover is written by Jason Latour, Dennis Hopeless and Robbie Thompson, with art by Vanesa Del Rey, Bengal, Javier Rodriguez, and Tana Ford. Thompson and Del Rey are handling this first chapter.

'Scarlet Witch' #1 Spins a Story of Witchcraft and Redemption
Scarlet Witch #1 opens with a flashback to the press conference from Avengers (vol. 1) #16, in which Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch officially join the team. It’s hard to imagine now, but this was the first time the Avengers ever had a new lineup. Wanda doesn’t always get the respect that this deserves, but she's been an Avenger since almost the very beginning. In fact, she’s only the second female member after the Wasp. But in this fractious post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe, being a longtime Avenger doesn’t necessarily mean what it used to. Many things have been cast into doubt. For decades, being the mutant daughter of Magneto was a huge element of the Scarlet Witch’s story, and now it seems that she’s neither his daughter nor a mutant. That may be frustrating for her longtime fans (it certainly is for me), but it doesn’t feel important to this story. This isn’t a story about mutants, or Inhumans, or people who’ve been experimented on by the High Evolutionary. This is a story about witchcraft.

That tiara in her hair; that not-Magneto's-daughter stare, which strips mutant-dom bare, it's Scarlet Witchcraft. As one of the biggest female heroes in the Marvel Universe never to have had her own book before, it's welcome news that Wanda Maximoff is finally getting her time to shine in Scarlet Witch #1. Written by James Robinson, the series promises to dig deep into the question of how witchcraft works (or doesn't) in Wanda's world, and might even explain how her formerly-mutant powers work. Check out a preview, with art by Vanesa R. Del Rey.

Vanesa R. Del Rey Announced on First Issue of 'Scarlet Witch'
When Marvel first announced an ongoing Scarlet Witch series from writer James Robinson, there was a conspicuous lack of an artist attached. On the one hand, it was a bad sign; announcing books without artists tends to devalue the role of artists. On the other hand, it was also a good sign; it spoke to Marvel's efforts to put the right artists on the right books, and perhaps specifically to assign diverse talent to diverse books, like artist Natacha Bustos on Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, and writer Jose Molina on the Santerians revival. To that end, a lot of fans were hoping Wanda Maximoff's first solo series would not come from an all-male creative team. The good news is that those fans have got their wish, with Vanesa R. Del Rey now joining Robinson on the title. The bad news is that it's only for one issue.

'Women of Marvel' Covers by Del Rey, Richard and Sauvage
March's 'Women of Marvel' covers in celebration of Women's History Month are a great showcase of some of the most talented artists in the business --- and hopefully a promise that these women will be overwhelmed with Marvel work in the months that follow! Thus far we've seen covers from Amanda Conner, Gurihiru, Stephanie Hans, Katie Cook, Ming Doyle, Stacey Lee, Erica Henderson, Colleen Doran, and many more. Now we can add three more names to the roster, with covers by Vanesa R. Del Rey, Sara Richard, and Marguerite Sauvage. Del Rey provides the scary/sexy cover for Black Widow #16, Sauvage offers a blast of pop art perfection for All-New Captain America #5, and Richard conjures a blast of another kind for Deadpool #43, guest starring a Deadpoolian take on one of Squirrel Girl's unbeatable buddies.

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, as well as the special qualities of comic book storytelling, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great pinups, fan art and other illustrations on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, awnd some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it is awesome.

Grant Morrison's 'Sinatoro' Among Black Mask Titles For 2015
Grant Morrison has been talking about his film passion project, a psychedelic Western called Sinatoro, since at least 2010. It was even promoted with a poster. But the writer's screenplay has ended up taking the route so many projects take on the way to becoming movies: It will be a comic first. Morrison will work with artist Vanesa Del Rey on the series, which will come out some time next year from Black Mask Studios, the comics and transmedia company launched last year by comics artist Ben Templesmith, writer Steve Niles, Bad Religion guitarist/songwriter Brett Gurewitz and Matt Pizzolo of Occupy Comics. It's one piece of a big and not too shabby slate of new comics coming from the publisher in the next year, the highlights of which you can check out below.
